In jk2 or jedi knight: acadamy (the sequal to that sequal) you automatically block almost all projectiles that are shot at you.... well 90% of the time... if you want to play it you can dl the demo........ at www.ign.com Projectiles like rockets couldn't be blocked but you can use your force power to push them away. THen there are some really strong energy weapons that you are just better off dodging altogether.

Melees are ment to sumplement your weapons not replace them. Taking some one with a flack is a bit tougher. You have to first close the distance thats the key.....

Melee vs Ranged

Post by Frobozz »

I doubt melee weapons would be on equal ground with the ranged weapons. The lightsaber combat in JK2 was overkill. When you finally got the saber, all the other weapons in the game, with the exception of the sniper rifle became totally useless. Half the time, I just stood in the doorway to a room, and waited for everyone to kill themselves with re-deflected laser blasts.

I guess there's one good test you could do either in beta or what-not to see how up to par the melee weapons are with the rest of the toys:

Modify a good, medium sized CTF map, melee spawns only on one side, everything else on the other. No "trap" weapons (laser mines, proxies, perhaps even the goo gun) on either side.

Play in a low ping game with even teams (random even), to 10 points, no time limit.

In the end, one team will have 10 points, the other will have something else. You now got a ratio of one side to the other. If one side is totally unbalanced, you'll get like 10 to 2. I'd expect a score more like 10 to 4 or 5 from what the melee weapons sounds like. If that's your "target", congrats. :)
