Wasn't for MicroSoft, I wouldn't have found computer gaming. I dig their stuff. Go Bill!
Hehe, truth is I understand all about the problems of monopolies, but I just don't care about this one as much as others. Let's face it, we can't fight every war out there, and this one is not high on my list.
But, this looks to me like another prime example of MicroSoft-envy, or hate, or whatever, running wild. Some of those comments are just silly. Like if this mod dies, it's gonna open the floodgates, and my kids are gonna end up growing up communist or something. (hehe, and one fan seems to think if they mod from Europe, they can be "safe", and make the game company go '_blank!_' themselves

And another one is gonna notify CNN!)
I've never even heard of the game or the mod (or if I did, it didn't stick). So I don't know squat about the history here, but after just briefly cruising thru some of that, it sounds to me like everything is right in line with what I would have expected.
They were taking money, registering the company, applying for copyright.....("Paypal to pay for 'site'!" "just want to be legal!" "COMPILATION COPYRIGHT"....yeah, yeah.., whatever)
So there's a 'reason' given for each step, fine. But taken as a whole, I still say it sounds like they should just get over it, and accept the fact that those folks have a right to say No.
If a company doesn't want you doing that, then don't. To really stretch for an analogy, I think it's the same as working for Hooters, then complaining about the uniforms. If you are not comfortable somewhere, or are not welcome, then leave. Don't stay, mount protests and law suits and petitions, expecting everyone else to change the world for you. Just get another job, find another game, etc.
Besides, it sounds like they went too far, w/o doing some legwork. If you want to take steps like that, perhaps you ought to maybe run it by somebody 1st.
