Class-Based Chaos

Post by Shadowstar »

I was thinking about UT2004 and started to wonder about the possibility of having a class-based CTF gametype of Chaos, sorta like TFC. We've got enough weapons and stuff to make this a real possibility, and I think it would be really cool to do.

For instance, an engineer class could have a MUG and Turret launcher and be able to fix vehicles and charge up people's shields, A "Chaos Knight" class could pick from a number of melee weapons and have armor, A spy class would be able to use disguises (like in TFC) and have a CPP and melee knife (there was some mention of working on a dagger for melee). A spy could get a second CPP by killing an enemy spy, which would be a cool touch. It could be fun to plan all this stuff out too.

I'm wondering what the rest of the dev team thinks about it?

Could call it Chaos Fortress or somesuch.

Its a good Idea , But I think it would be better if Each class had An MuG , but they all had Different ammunitions , Such as , the Engineer/Tech would have access to the Electric ammo(or Freeze , if electric doesnt make the cut , No pun intended) The Knight could have access to the Flames but have a low ammo supply ,and Assault(or whatever its Chaos counterpart may be) could have the pellet ammunition you spoke of a while ago. The scout Could be armed with just the basic Airblast , but be able to blast themselves High into the air. Each class could access the different classes ammunitions by killing someone of another class. However , ammunition stores for ammo types not native to each class could be reduced , for example , a Tech , whose ammo is about 40-60 freeze , could only carry 20-30 flame.

I really like the Idea of class chaos , But If it mimics Teamfortress too much , it might get stale , alot of thought has to be put into spreading the weapons and abilities so as to make the game Fresh , and Fun.

Sounds sweet. Change the moving speeds of the classes, and you've got a ton of strategery to be had!

Yeah, we'll have to see what UT2k4 brings to the table before we can really decide. We can get deeper into the idea of Chaos Fortress when we start thinking about what we're going to do for UT2k4 support.
