Duel Mode- Map Hazzards Idea Thread

I've noticed that "Duel-Arena" is the only map with hazzards in it and yet there are SO many different ways to kill people! There's no excuse that more maps shouldn't have strange and wonderous torture devices in them! :D

Here's a few of my ideas for hazzards:


*An arena where the entire ceiling has pillars that randomly come down to crush anything below it. (Ala mario bros.)

*Flame thrower hazzards!

*A grid of spikes that fall from the ceiling!

*Freeze thrower hazzards that will freeze the player for 5 seconds, allowing his enemy to shatter him to pices. :D

*Crazily aimed jumpads that throw you towards other hazzards!

*Pillars that come up from the floor randomly and crush you against the ceiling!

*Arrow launcher traps that spray out 10 or so arrows!

*Fire, poison, and explosive grenade traps!

*Giant boulders ala Indiana Jones that roll around the map!

*Fire mines placed all over the map!


Now tell me y'all's crazy ideas for hazzards! Or say if you're working on a map with any good ones. :D

Also, I think that all powerups should be placed in a dangerous position near a hazzard. (To make people think twice about going for them. :D )

Cool ideas. Since Arena was my most successful map, I have decided that any Duel maps I do from now on will have some kind of hazards in them. Of course, I'm partial to hazards that I can use cool karma effects on, like spikes... :twisted:

Random idea just popped into my head. Anyone seen Ernest Goes to Jail? He tries to escape from prison by strapping himself to a bent down flag pole. The idea being when he lets go he will go flying to freedom, but instead the pole goes up and smashes him on the ground on the other side.

What about putting a catapult in a map? If you don't jump at the crucial point in the arc you end up getting thrown into a spike/wall of flame/something at tremendous speed. I'd love to see this is one of your maps shadow!

Could maybe have a map that takes place above a medieval trebuchet during a castle seige... Some kind of platform or something above the thing, and if you get knocked off the platform, you fall into the trebuchet and your opponent cuts the rope with his sword and sends you to a nice splattery death on the castle walls...

Dunno, maybe...

I did think about having one where the floor is made up of brittle stone bricks. Stray swings cause some bricks to break or dislodge, revealing a deep pit below. As the duel goes on, it becomes more of a balancing act and a test of FPS acrobatics as the combatants battle for the last bits of stable flooring... Would be set in a huge medieval tower that is burning and slowly crumbling away after a devastating seige...

Having a map in a factory with poison and napalm effects going off near cauldrons and flash effects near welding points and stuff would be cool 8O

My old UT Goro's Lair map has a spiked ceiling the can be triggered to smash down onto everyone below it- I will be converting this and my other UT MK maps to UT2k3 for use with Duel.

Sounds great!! actually reminds me of this map for hl for some mod .... that had teh floor made out of wood and if you broke to much of the floor you'd drop to your doom. It was pretty cool and funny cause there was also screaming/falling sound effects and a black out kinda thing. You'd hear "ahhhh, with a phewwwwwwwww splat " lolol

Just a thought, You know the hole in the middle of Duel-Arena?
Well it should be made so the grappel can't stick to the wall, otherwise if you fall in (or are Kicked in) all you have to do is grappel the wall and hang there until the timer runs out.
Rather Cheap don't you think?

Yep. Though you have to be careful. The KillZ is pretty high on that pit. Unless you're running on a slow gamespeed, it's tricky to get out of there alive.

Those are some AWESOME ideas!!! Especially the second one, I'd love to see duel arenas like that! Do it! Do it! :D

I thought about another one, where you start out at the bottom of a pit that has platforms going up the sides. 10 seconds into the match, lava starts to fill the bottom of the pit, and you have to work your way up the platforms while fighting to avoid the lava. After the lava gets to the top of the pit, (it's pretty deep) you could have either an open arena where you could fall back into the lava filled pit or the pit could be enclosed with 50 feet of headroom from where the lava stops.

I was thinking about a rotating blade that you need to crouch under it in order to pass safely :idea:
Anyone remember the grim reapers in the shadow temple of ocarina of time? :roll:
