New Map: Duel-Colosseum

Post by JenoLT »

Hello to you guys out there,

i just like this asskicking mod and mapped something for it: Duel-Colosseum

Please try it out, and post anything you know to improve this map - or just to comment it. The download link is at the bottom of this post, and here are three screenshots:

--> EDITED: SEE PAGE 2 OF THIS TOPIC <--

P.S.: anybody knows, how to create a "no-grapple-zone" - so u cant fire ur grapple above 512 WU or something like that.

A no-grapple zone isn't exactly possible, but you can put in a blocking volume. The grapple will go through the blocking volume, but the player won't... That's about the only way I know of to keep people from grappling to places they shouldn't be.

There is another way, in which the grapple won't 'attach'... one of the mappers will need to post how to do it... I can't remember the term for it.

Please check the Duel Mapping guide to make sure you have all the requirements in your map. Thanks again.

Wouldn't it work with a "limits volume" With it you can prevent certain actors from passing. It might be possible to set the limit to the grapple hook, so it can't exist in the limits volume.

I just used a limitvolume, and limited the grapple from passing by - when i tried to shoot the grapple through, my UT2k3 crashed

the grapple is really a projectile, and disappears when it encounters a killzone.

One thing you can do is put a blocking volume then put a killzone right above it to kill any grapple cables that go towards past the volume.

Sorry I was at work till just a few moments ago.

The grapple also avoids a block all actor as well.

I liked the map. Too dark and the center was kind of plain. Maybe use some other texture or patteren in the middle to give it a something else to stand out. But all in all its a fun map. TY TY TY!

Yeah i agree, the middle is too dark. And need to be "broken" a bit. Too plain at the moment.
Also the skybox has dark seams, it would probably look better if you set the skybox to unlit, or use a smesh for the sky along with a sheet for instance. A good one is in teh "general" static mesh package, it's a smeshring. Just change the texture and palce a sheet above it so no seam is seen. Always a good method. :)

Other than that, it looked good and fun.

One thing you might consider doing is grabbing some of the statics we use for the melee weapons and half-bury them at various places in the arena, and maybe add in a couple mounds of dirt or something that looks like rusted armor to make the arena look "used"

Just suggestions based off what jb said about the floor, ive not had much time to get on UT so havent had a chance to check out the map yet myself.

How come our mappers can't make reasonably sized files like this one??

Thaks for all the comments - but one question: do you think the tribune should be accessable per grappling_hook or not?

Depends on what you want i guess. If you want small cramped fighting in the middle part, than don't do it. If you want people to be able to evade each other than do. Personly i would keep the tribune accecable. I tihnk it's more fun if you are able to evade your attacker. I think if the tribune isn't accecable anymore, you limit players too much, but that's just my opinion. :)

cheers.

Sure it's "just" youre opinion, but that is what i want :)

Because if i make a map, and nobody except me likes it, it would be a bit stupid, wouldn't it
