I thought this was already discussed elsewhere, but just in case...

I think any game changes to force players to play the game "the right way" suck. All the "Anti-lamer" and "Anti-camper" bull really bothers me. Similarly fleeing duelists. At what range is someone "Fleeing"? On Chaos Immortal, I may have to run away from someone to grab the damage amplifier. Am I then a coward? What is both are moving away from each other?

And as to "higher health wins", that's no good either, but will make the problem worse. First lucky hit wins after a round spent running away.

I still say that voting is the proper way to resolve this. A stylish fighter should win the benefits of his playing style. Players deemed "lame" by consensus should get voted out as a sign they should change their ways.

Oh, and gib the loser of votes. Boom! The Chaos Gods have spoken!

not that my opinion has much weight, but being a lamer fighter fan, I dont see much place for the grappler in Melee either.
I guess its one of those things though that the server admin can control- so I guess if you dont like a wussy grapple runner, play on a server with grapple off?

I have to agree with those who feel nothing is needed.

If a player is using these lame tactics, then get some support from your fellow players, find an admin, and have the offending fool banned.

Plus some voting stuff is already out there. If I'm not mistaken, you can already vote about a player on Moovin Hoovin. If so, then you're all set, vote away.

I am totaly against having it hardcoded somehow into the mod. There is no way I can see that it would work right. Not counting HP, or trying to somehow have the code figure out if I was "running away" or not.

IMO, we'd spend more time trying to figure that out than it's worth. And besides, similar stuff exists in other game types. This is not a new "Duel" issue.

Have you not played against someone in CTF who takes the flag, and just hides? I've seen it done. Get one point ahead, then take enemy flag and just hide somewhere till time runs out. That lamer CTF tactic is the exact same deal. This is not a new problem with Duel.

My suggestions are the same as have always existed, long before Duel. Find a new server, or post about those playing that way, try and make them too embarrassed to show up, and/or get to an admin, and have them removed.

And yes, we already have the option to play with the grapple or not.

ive just got it,the way to make running impossible is to make it so that if a player doesnt hit for 10-20 sec he just gets 50% slower and cant use grapple, maybe not

Yep, seen it, usually manage to find them
Most of the servers I play ctf on now are mostly citadel or orbital2 so I already know most of the hiding spots there

Yeah, I basically agree with that. If we do anything, it shouldn't be much.

I enjoy seeing the different fighting styles people come up with. There's much more going on than just standing there, toe to toe, flailing away at each other. The only thing that bugs me is when somebody waiting in line spams the screen with "zzzzzz" or *yawn*. If your not having fun, it's probably time for you to go do something else.
just my 2 cents

Hi Hammy 'The Hamster' Ham(tm)... it is neat to see all the different ways people fight... some use the same weapon mostly and others can't make a decision and switch each round :D

So any word on more maps? Any updates to your 2 current ones? :D

:D RockGarden is done (looks way better imo). ArchEnemy had a lighting snafu when I added corner beads to the arch ceiling edges, so I'm debating weather to keep the detail and slightly boogered lighting, or to remove the detail and go back to the boring gold ceiling. I'll send them to you, and you can be the judge. The fog-bound galleon map is comming along nicely. So far it is planned for melee fighting on the 3 main deck levels, but I may make an expanded DM version as well.
