Actually , you do need the DE bonus pack , scince some of the maps utilize bits and pieces from it. Plus its always good to have the whole set . . .

Yeah, and you know how us mappers are. Once we get a bonus pack, it just kinda blends in with everything else and suddenly we're using stuff from it without even knowing it. ;)

No, 6 maps that take ~74mb. Not largest. And yes, they are the best =P

Actually the total uncompressed filesize for the DE Bonus pack is 209,5 MB (inclusive the map files itself, the ogg music files, the static meshes and the textures) and not anywhere near 300 MB... Thats an average size of 35 MB per map inclusive all textures and statics and not the map fiel itself... That's just a normal average size for a UT2003 map, so how explain me with valid arguments that this is too much for maps or a waste of space? I saw maps where the mapfile itslef alopne is bigger than 35 MB...

And they are quality maps... DM-DE_Grendelkeep is one of the best DM maps you can get for UT2003, and the DE BP maps own the maps of the Epic BP...

Nonetheless the DE BP is considered as standard requirement for most of the custom stuff, it belongs to the essential UT2003 files anyways. Try to run many custom maps without it, you won't have much luck, because they use statics/textures from its packages...
The Community Bonus Pack is one of the other essential files which require the DE pack...

To say its totally waste (when it is already free, too) without any sensible reason, would just leave the impression of ignorance IMHO...

Not to mention that the code files that come with the bonus packs are included in the source code downloads that ive found, and most people base their mods off those downloads.
