So hereby thanks for the whole chaos team (and beta testers) because they give their spare time for us (not to mention they made a new gun that Rocks hehe). O jeah also special thanks to RFLagg because he keeps the news up to date and that is a lot of work (as you can see). The pic of the frozen Gorge Rocks man!RFLagg wrote:Yes! We are still here, and working every day. Very sorry for lack of updates last couple of weeks, but rather than bore you with excuses, we'll get right to the news.
But first off, I'm gonna take a moment to mention a group of folks that probably never really get enough credit for what they do around here. Our beta testing team. These guys donate their time, doing all kinds of stuff that sometimes can be very boring, just to help Chaos be a better mod in the end. And that deserves a mention now and again. We've got a pretty darn good group of guys at the moment, and it's only right to publicly thank them once in awhile.
bstef9950, Gamer119, IceHunter, Pepito, Sensei, Halprin, and Kyllian.
So, if you do find yourself enjoying our mod at some point in time (Thank You!), please consider taking a moment to thank a beta tester you might run into on the servers, or on the forums. Because their donated time is a big part of Chaos. I realize it might not be what you came to read, but again, their work deserves mention sometimes too.
Ok, now on to the new goodies. Here are some early, BETA pics of our Multi-Purpose Utility Gun, aka the MUG, which will essentially be three guns in one. It is a flamethrower, a 'freeze-gun', and an Airgun, all wrapped up into one easy to use package. Primary fire will be either fire or ice, depending on what you have loaded. And of course switching between the two with our ChangeAmmo key (the change-ammo key is already in the mod, and is used on most Chaos weapons). Alt-fire will be blasts of air, and will be available when you have either fire or ice ammo loaded in the gun.
We've got new effects still being worked on, but here's some early beta pics or effects being tried, just to give you an idea. Remember, it's all early stuff, work in progress.
These are ice projectors on player model;
And here's some flamethrower stuff;
Ok, moving on. Lots of folks have been asking to use melee weapons in other game types, and we are working on that right now. However, this will only be done in Chaos game types, and the Chaos versions of standard game types! So, besides Duel, you will be able to carry a melee weapon in King of the Hill, and Defenders of Chaos, plus the Chaos versions of DM and CTF, at a minimum. Whether or not we do a Chaos version of all the other standard game types is still in debate.
You will have a GUI option for selecting your melee weapon, and it will then be given to you when you spawn. So you will be playing normal DM, for example, with all the DM weapons, but you will also be toting your favorite Chaos melee weapon.
You can get kills with a melee weapon in a normal match, but of course it will require some practice, and you have to choose the right time. However, should the moment present itself, there aren't too many things as satisfying in-game as getting that clean decapitation with a blade, right in the middle of a chaotic gun fight.
Next up, is that development on our Defenders of Chaos (DOC) game type continues. Just to review, from an earlier news post;
'Defenders of Chaos is going to be somewhat like a 'Medieval Invasion', with perhaps some elements of Assault mixed in to keep the game flowing, and interesting.'
Now, it's still very early-on, and it's hard to say too much more about it than we've said already, not just yet anyway. But everything from code, to maps, models and sounds (and more) is in the works. Pretty much nothing in the pics below is finished. And there's much, much more coming, than what you can see there. But we still wanted to give you something to look at..., if nothing else, it's proof that we are in fact working. ;p
And that's not all. There are more maps to show, for example, both from the Chaos Team (including at least 1 DM, and 1 DOM) and more Duel maps from the community. We'll get more pics and info posted soon. So while this news post may have been late, the work has been ongoing!
Thank you for visiting, we'll have another update soon.
EDIT: Notice the pics between the texts are gone.
