Agreed totally with all of the above. I liked the old HUD ok, but the new one blows the old right out of the water. I was hoping that you could get double of other weapons, obviously not the sniper or chaingun... but something. Also something about a vehicle arena??
Yeah, maybe there will be a mutator that allows you to have some kinda of dual arena or dual anywaapon. (sort of like that akimbo mut but an offical one) Also Vehicle arena would basically be like those car combat games (Twisted metal black, Vigelante 8, Mario kart .. lol ) I WANT A MARIO KARTISH UNREAL KART MOD!

I'll probably be flamed for this :), but I am quite disappointed with 2004. First, the good points. The engine has been improved; I am actually able to run 2004 at higher settings than 2003. The look and feel is improved as well.

Now, the bad. To me this feels like a "simple" tweaked version of 2003. There isn't really any innovation like we saw from UT to 2003. There is a new game type (which mod makers have been doing since day one) and vehicles, but not much else. I think some of the current mods for 2003 (Chaos, for example) are more innovative than what I have seen so far in the demo.

I checked Amazon.com and it is going to retail for $40.00. Not too bad a price for a new game, but a bit on the steep side for what I perceive as an upgrade to 2003. I think they are going to be hard pressed to attract new gamers into the fold with, as has been mentioned, a whole host of new games coming out this year that offer some different gaming experiences. Of course, I am basing this on the demo, but unless I see some really good stuff coming out in the full version, I'll wait for the price to drop to $20.00.

it isnt just that

read the full versions features
Tons of models+maps(priceless, they look better than in UT2k3)
Tweaked ut engine(better mods,more fps,cooler frags)
New gametype(Yippoyohey,it rox)
Much better ai(vehicle using,i think)

i think its much more than a tweaked 2003,its tons better,it only reasembles ut2k3 in some weps and the graphix

RDC is not that far off. Some of his/her points are very valid. You can think of UT2k4 is another big bouns pack. We only get some new maps, the others we can play now. We only get a few new weapons. Lots of bug fixes that should have went in to UT2k3. So yea I can see why some one would say this.

That would be his. :)

Don't get me wrong, gang. I am not saying that 2004 isn't a good game. It is UT after all, and UT continues to be the best arena game available. I just think they could have added something to the aging franchise to make it more than a super add-on to 2003.

Nah, we won't flame you for that opinion rdc. Lot's of folks saying similar things. But I hope you reconsider. We're going to be having a blast playing, and you're welcome to join us.

Afer all, life is short, and if you're going to be gaming, might as well have some fun. And really, after it's all said and done, and we're long gone, with some Commander Ghin-type surveying the decaying remnants of our dead society, what's another $20?

And just in case you haven't had the opportunity yet (dunno if you're in a clan, or where you like to play), playing ONS as a team, with humans, is great fun. It seems to be a game type that is not overly simple, redundant and boring, yet not so hard to start to pick up on when you're new.

I realize it can be hard to experience that kind of human teamwork though, sometimes anyway, with folks you don't know. But if you (or anyone) wanna come by either Furry or Ice's ONS servers, and play with some of us who are regulars here, you will get a chance to do that stuff.

You can man the turret on the tank while somebody else drives, ride on top of a Manta out of the base to the nodes, have me 'try' and fly a Raptor over your tank for air support while you take on the core for Victory. Hehe. You'll actually see guys on your team healing your vehicle for you as you drive by, stuff like that.

I had a guy walking behind my tank the other day as I was plowing my way into the tunnel for the middle node. Of course link ammo runs out kinda fast, but how cool is that? I'm driving the tank into a big cluster of carnage, and my teammate is walking slowly behind me, using tank for cover, and keeping my tank's health up best he can. Nice.

Of course these are public servers, so not everyone is gonna play ball, so to speak. But a good number of us on there will in fact work with you, and the enjoyment factor just seems to increase exponentially (wow, big word for me  ), with each person that get's 'in sync' with the team.

So come on out, give it a shot. The IPs are listed in a thread just a bit lower than this one.

I think 2004 was directed more at opening up more options for modders (in addition to being basically an expansion pack). From what I've seen, Unrealed has been beefed up and the improved engine can do more, which means I can do more with it. I can't wait to see what they did with the particle system. If they make it possible to do liquid-beams without using a gazillion particles, I'll be in heaven, and we'll get a new icethrower effect :D Actually the main thing I'm hoping for is that some of the unique features of xemitters are integrated into the newer, more advanced emitter class, like line particles, which are like a combination of single-pixel sparks and sprite emitters, basically sprites with tails... That would be great, and I think I could use that to make all kinds of cool stuff, especially the new liquid nitrogen effect for the icethrower.

So I guess I'm just saying, don't base your opinion of 2004 on what it looks like when released (though I still think it will be quite good), base it on what we (modders) can do and will do with it. :D

Well said shadowstar - I agree completely, especially as I only bought 2K3 in the first place so I could (eventually) get Chaos for it... I can't wait to get my hands on the content creation tools myself.

But, more on topic, ejector seats. Simple enough concept - when your vehicle is reduced to {user onfigurable health}, [pop] you are removed at high velocity (upward) with a temporary gravbelt effect and no gun until you land.
But can/should it be done?
The skill is in setting the eject value - too low and some of the weapons will finish you before the ejector can work (e.g goliath main gun vs. manta), too high and you will never be able to use the vehicle to full effect.

Indeed. If I hold out until its hits $20.00, you guys should have a package ready, so it will be well worth the money then. :D
