ChaosUT

Post by radio1_mike »

Hi all.

I have been playing ChaosUT for quite awhile and I recently re-installed UT to a different hard drive.

I installed the lastest ChaosUT from fileplanet.com. The file says it is "Beta4". The filename was: Chaosut_v1_full.

So, I can play a single player game. But whenever I'd try to connect to a friends server playing ChaosUT, I'd get this error:

"ChaosUThud type mismatch error" and not be allowed in. But they could connect to me and play a game. But I get tired of always hosting so, I told a friend to install my version of ChaosUT. Now, when he connects to me, he gets the same error. What gives?

I did a fresh UT install on a different partition, so I can't really imagine what the problem is.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

If the filename is Chaosut_v1_full, then it's the V1 version. Beta 4 was before V1. When you connect to a Server, the Server needs to be running the same version you are.

What you need for a Complete install is

UT (of course)
Patch 436
Mods 1 and 4
V1

in this order.

If both you and your friend have installed clean in that order, I believe you should have no problems.

"ChaosUThud type mismatch error" and not be allowed in.
This may be an issue with another mod you may have installed. Not all mods play nice with each other. Example of this is 'Strangelove' mod. I've heard SL doesn't always play nice with Chaos.

If anybody else can help here, please do. Good Luck. MoO!

Hi. Thanks.

Hmm.. Well, the weird thing is I have this umod unpacker thingy that brings up a graphic and it's says-- ChaosUT Beta4 on the graphic but the file is the full version. I tried it that way, before I did a fresh install.

After the install, I did patch 436, map packs (Inoxx, etc...) then ChaosUt and then things like Infiltration and other maps...

I do have strangelove on my machine. I never really play it. So I geuss I will remove it and see if that's the problem...

Any other thoughts?

Radio,

sorry for your issues but we broke network compatibility between beta4 and v1 on pupose. We did this to force clients to update as there were lots of bugs that we fixed. Some how it sounds like you still have to different versions. If you dont mind try to donload the full v1.0 again but this time use the beyondunreal mirror. Install that on both PCs and you should be set. I am worried that you might have gotten a corrupted copy. Thanks and sorry for your issues.

Ya. I went to beyond unrealities and downloaded it. I installed it and then uninstalled strangelove.

I can now connect to other servers playing chaosUT.

Thanks for the concern. ChaosUT is really my favorite mod for UT, honestly, really of any game; and I was bummed because I could not play it.

Yah. Although w/ UT2k3 coming, who know how long UT will be played.
Plus, I play as Chief Wiggum.

UT isn't going anywhere anytime soon... Look at Quake and Quake 2... you can still play tons of games online, even though Q3A and Q3TA have been out for a long time now... You can even play Doom online if you do a little searching... Sea ya around...
