We prefer to use our own stuff, and in this case that includes vehicles. Probably because vehicles are a big part of gameplay and when it comes to big things we like to be original. But it's also pretty random. We'll borrow Epic's bits every now and then if it suits the purpose. But we prefer to excersize our creative muscles as much as possible, so alot of our content is new and original.
And we don't copy other mods/movies/media/etc... That doesn't mean it can't inspire us to make something totally original though.

aah well didnt mean to starta debate here. it was a wish after all.
..
i just happened to like the actial design of the vehicles.. and it was easy to stear with the mouse in halo. i liked that
i dont think people should be afraid of borrowing ideas if they can imrpove on it.. just because someone did a part of it first, doesnt mean it has to end there. why should you have to redesign everything from the ground up, progression takes so long then.
imagine if everyone hade to come up with the pythargoras theory on their own (lame example i know) we might not even have computers today. the reason the computer industry is advancing so fast, is because people are building on other peoples ideas and making them better. taking an idea and adding to it with aknowldegement and respect t o the author i think is a good thing, taking someones idea andpassing it off as your own.. now thats bad class.
(BTW i played halo on the PC
it was the best in a long time for me (peopels tastes differ eh? good though cause that helps bring vairety in different fields,).
ok dumb of me to suggest a copy of hte halo vehicles, but just take it as a suggestion for what i would like a vehicle to look like... or handle like
i did really like driving the jeep and flying the lil plane with the mouse!

super weapon vechicles?
u chaos guys should make something like a massive super vechicle that takes bout the size of 2/3 of a onslaught base
something like a round disc that can carry bout 8 people shooting weapons around every corner of the vechicles. hahah that would be fun,
thx for listeing to my random opinion

Flamethrowers don't work very well on fast-moving vehicles (unless you like your driver to have baked face)...

Forward mounted flamethrowers don't work on fast vehicles. But why do they have tohave forward mountings? How about on the sides, just like the Scorpion's blades?
Has anyone mentioned a jetbike? Sort of a cross between a Manta, Scorpion and Raptor; Long as a Scorpion, narrow with wings like a manta and sleek like the Raptor's grav plates (or Akira's bike). Driver toward the rear, armed with twin C.U.T.T.E.R.s, firing directly ahead. Same speed, acceleration and control as a Raptor, but hovers and jumps like the Manta i.e. no flying.
Could even have a larger, more robust two man version with a rear turret mounting a Big C.U.T.T.E.R. (TM)

Interesting that you mentioned that. someone in IRC offered us a Bike model that was based on Kaneda's bike in akira quite recently , dont believe we took it though. . .azrael wrote:

It doesn't matter where the Flamethrower is mounted. If it's on the sides, it's basically ineffective on a fast-moving vehicle, becuase you can't really get a sustained hit on anything. It's like whipping your hand through a fire really fast. It won't hurt as much (if at all) as if you were to move it through slowly.
And a rear-mounted flamethrower isn't all that useful either, since it would never really point at anything you wanted to flame, even if someone was chasing you, at that speed it's easy enough to dodge, or even just pull back a little so that you're out of range.
But on a tank, it would be great. Especially since a tank gun isn't really very good at close range. Have one guy in a flamethrower turret while the other guy uses the main gun, and the flamethrower guy can torch anyone who gets too close, while the driver can ignore the infantry and use the main gun on something that deserves it. The minigun works similarly, but I think a flamethrower would be more effective at close range. The Minigun is better at long range, and a good tank driver can usually do all the long-range damage that needs to be done with the main gun anyway.
Flamethrowers would also be good on a tank for clearing out bunkers and hiding places. Drive a tank up to a sniper nest and start shooting tank shells and flames in there. Nobody would come out alive.

What about having a 'Lightcycle' like Bike. It could leave a 'wall-like trail' behind it that lasts for several seconds before fading back down into the ground.
You could use this in several defining tactical situations, such as pinning enemy forces down (long enough for someone to chuck a grenade in). That way, there'd be no need for them to have weapons as they'd have a very distinct advantage to add to the mix, but wouldn't be much good by themselves.
I also like the idea of destructable walls and items, but that might be a bit too complex if you haven't already implemented something along those lines.

These days, life may be slow, but at least I've got my movie in Post Production.

hmm,smells of TRON,bike-check,wall behind it-check,no weapons-check
the tron bike
I thought that was rather obvious without having to state it, afterall, I did say 'lightcycle-like bike'.
Come on, with Back to the Futureesque hoverboards already onboard, put in a Tron-like bike, and the mod officially moves beyond cool (at least for me).
Sure, the new stuff is still really cool by itself... but I look at it for its tactic possabilities, and those alone make it worth mentioning. If they do it well, much like the Grappling Hook (which I use extensively, ask Shadowstar at the last convention I was at, I'm a grappling fool), I would be there and then some. Count me in for Light Cycle Operation Commando Unit.

It's an interesting idea, and there are plenty of tactical applications.
Not sure if the code would allow it though, sounds tricky... But if it could be done, it certainly would be interesting.
