If all the features are in and it's just a bughunt now, IMO it should be released. Then the public can give it one good scrubbing-over before MSU to really polish it up.

but then the public would have a buggy version circulating around :P. it would cause complications , and lots of confusion. We'd need to tell the public about all our secrets , and it would take a while to get everything sorted. the Test Server would be too full , and pandemonium would break out!

Chaos doesn't work that way.
We always strive to have as perfect of public release as possible. Professionalism is our friend

The release of chaos must be orderly and controlled.

I'm all for waiting just as long as you make the deadline. I don't know what pisses me off more, giving a dozen false release dates or making every single damn beta available to the public.

Have you seen the official UT2004 boards? You can't find a freakin thing among these "alphas" and "betas" and all sorts of concept nonsense. I wish more people would finish their work, release it, then start something new.

Nemephosis,

that is very true. And we can never have a 100% bug free version. But we do our best. For example we have already added the JB fix for the server broswer issue :) However we have been able to get a lot of little things polished in the last few days. Plus the turret launcher model was just finnished. So we are trying to get those in and working and other little supprises in for you as well.

"Chaos is change, the only constant."

Well, right around this time o' the season I always feel like I have to remind folks, yes of course we work towards bug-free, no-tweaks-needed release, but with as much going on as we have going on, there will always be some things floating around, that just aren't done yet. Not trying to lower expectations or anything here (these guys have really done some excellent work)...just try not to expect perfection either. That'll make it easier on all of us.

But one thing to keep in mind, is that in 'recent' Chaos history, the team has always backed up big releases with relatively quick, and small, code-patches if needed. So if you do find something that should not have been missed, or desperatly needs tweaked, please come and post it and let us know, the guys will fix it if possible.

The beta testers work hard to find everything, and the guys work hard to get to it all before the clock runs out, it just seems that there is always one more thing...., and so we keep working.

Jet, who was doing a lot of the work on the hoverboard, left the team a little while ago, so its had very little new work done on it :-(

Awesome! Can you use blood spatters with the burn marks on the player models?

Ok, here's a shot that sorta almost barely shows what has me all worked up, Chaos CTF;

<a href="http://www.planetunreal.com/chaotic/scr ... f_hud1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.planetunreal.com/chaotic/scr ... _hud1_.jpg" border="0"></a>

What you see there is a Chaos CTF map by Mr. Hammerman. And in Chaos CTF, you cannot just touch your flag and have it returned automaticaly. You must pick it up and carry it home.

If you look at the top of the HUD, you can see that my team's Blue flag is currently held by the Red team (the "!" is Red). And you can see that the Red flag has been dropped.

However, that's not all. Even though it's hard to tell in a static picture, the little 'radar dots' up there on those circles, no longer point to the flag bases, The HUD radar dots now always point to the flags, no matter where the flags are at!

So not only can I tell at a glance that the Red team has my flag, but I can tell which way I need to go to get that flag. And even though the Red flag has been dropped, and is laying out in the map somewhere, I can simply follow the radar dot and I will find the flag.

I realize it won't appeal to everyone, but this is the Chaos CTF that I have been waiting/hoping/dreaming for, for a very long time. :D I'd like to thank the Chaos Team, and Mr. JimMarlowe in particular, for making this a reality. Yes, we have many more items and features planned for this game type, but it will be quite playable, and very fun IMO, even w/o all of those items in yet.

And here's one recent addition that our guys took care of as well - since Chaos CTF supports vehicles, when you select the Chaos CTF game type, all of your CTF maps will be listed in the map selection menu, including vCTF maps. So you can choose to play Chaos CTF on 'normal' CTF maps, vehicle CTF maps, or a mixture of both when you set up your map list.

I hope you give it a try. It's where you'll find me. flaggrules
