Nice MOD, BUT 1 big problem

Post by HardObject »

Bad FPS.

Sometimes it is good, alot of the times it is bad. The game stutters every now and then, and when I respawn I see myself 3rd person and THEN 1st person, alot of the times bad FPS.

This is the only MOD i have it with. My guess is they need to optimize their code?

This really bothers me, fun MOD, but very bad fps, this just stinks :(

Anyway to fix this?

I have tried everything, from turning everything off to the lowest possible resolution, but no luck :(

My card is also set at high performance, i have a ATI Radeon 9800 PRO, 767 MB DDR Ram, and a AMD XP 2100, 1833 mhz

And enuff free disk space.

Pls help me make this MOD playable! (I hope it's just the MOD and that they need to optimize it!)

Hard my son has a PC that has a much lower spec then yours and it runs fine in default mode (meaning letting UT2k4 detect hardware and set options). He has a 1600xp, 512 mb ram and GF4 ti4200. I have not seen any such slow downs. Can you try this, rename your UT2004.ini file. Rename you ChaosUT2.ini file. And play a game of chaos to see if you still get some slow down?

That computer is better than mine, and my FPS are just fine.

What do you have running in the background? I mean, if you have three users logged on at once, and you have a K++ search with "no limit" running for the past 30-odd hours and taking up 100 megs of ram (it has a memory leak) then no wonder.

Make sure all other users are logged out, and shut down any extraneous crap you have in the background. You have XP, right? Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and see which programs are taking up how much memory. If anything except Explorer.exe or svchost.exe is taking up more than 10 megabytes, kill it! Kill it and stop it from starting up again.

Go into your UT2004\SYSTEM\UT2004.ini
Then go down to [Engine.GameEngine]. The first thing below that is CacheSizeMegs=33 (or something like that).
Change it to (in your case) 560 instead of 33.
It will load better and (you may) see a increase in FPS.

Anyone else that wants to do this take your amount of RAM and set that UT2004.ini option to about 200 below your ram. EX. [Your Ram Here]-200= [The Number To Use]

Hope I helped.

I could be wrong, but doesn't that actually control the download cache, not the RAM? I mean, mine's been at 33 since I got the game, and it uses all 512 MB of my ram when it runs.

To tell you the truth I have no idea what it does but someone (on another forum) mentioned it and ever since then my game has loaded faster.

BTW, I am the only user on this computer and the only programs running when I play usually is a virus scanner and a ram optimizer.

The virus scanner is a light one, it only scans incoming files, not my whole drives :) So that shouldnt be the problem.

I will also defrag, that might help!

Thnx for the nice reply's, this MOD has a friendly community :D

preload all skins off
speech recognition off
open the ini and find avoid hitches, set it to true,it will cost a few fps but eliminate hitches
