Daggers....

Post by ChaosX »

Let me start this off with saying this is NOT A nerf the daggers thread.

I'm not sure how many of you have noticed this, (probably quite a few), but the daggers are quite a bit longer than your average dagger would me. My suggestion, is to get rid of one of them, increase the damage slightly, and call it a short sword.

To fill in the place of the daggers, put in akimbo knives, about half the size of the current daggers, maybe even have one reverse grip, just for style. Extremley short range, very fast, and the current dagger damage. I believe it would stop the cries of 'Dagger Whore' ringing from server to server, and it would also give the game one more stylistic aspect, IMO atleast.

Sword and shield

Personally I dont think that there's much wrong with the daggers as they are, tho' maybe a point less damage would help things. Of course, everyone and his brother have already made their opinions known, if not clear.

A short sword would be very cool, but probably a bit unbalanced, due to its length. So, it needs something more. Like a shield on the offhand, like Sophitia/Cassandra from Soul Calibur. Of course, it would also be a departure from the slashing and bludgeoning weapons we have - it should be even more staby than the daggers, 'cos you just can't do anything else with a short sword. Or, rather, no-one would ever train you do do anything else. Should also have at least one shield-punch.

The daggers are fine IMO too, but I'm just tired of the bitching. I even know someone who's willing to model and animate the knives for you if they were to be put in.

How about a special "weapon" that lets you use your mind to kill people? The wielder would only have to touch the enemy in order to kill or seriously injure him. Primary fire would activate the touch of death, which lasts 1 second and takes two seconds to recharge. or This "weapon" wouldn't have a real defense, just a "brace for impact" alt-fire to soften enemy blows. This option would work just like the shield gun, with an energy pool to power the shield. Using this power would force you to move at walking speed, and energy should be drained at about twice (or three times) the speed of the shield gun.

id personally like to see katars, yknow, the bladed gauntlets / swords you tie to your wrists. Im not sure if they were ever actually a weapon, but if they were theyed hafta have been fairly deadly, i mean if you think about it with them being tied to your wrists you could applied full force to the blade.

The katar is an actual weapon. It was designed in India.

And the fact that it had that scissor action. BRUTAL. But I guess it'd work pretty darn good for what it's meant for.

I think that scissor action could be pretty cool IF katar's were included. But then there's that whole issue of the *Stab, open, close, pull back* action it'd probably end up with, and the fact that you could hit someone for plenty of damage AFTER the actual stabbing motion was done. Which brings up a random question that just entered my mind:

Would it be impossible to adjust the damage at different points in the animation? It sounds like it would be, allthough it would make combat a wee bit more sensible, what with not being killed by a weapon as it comes swinging back at the end of a swing. Then again, the game IS called Unreal, as many people tend to point out.

Actually, come to think of it, I don't know if I've ever been hurt by one of those. I'm usually too busy running around like a fairy trying to stab people. Anyway uhh... I've run out of things to say, and have no way to end this.

Because they run.

Usually what people say when they just can't be bothered to fix something or want to get out of the situation.

I really think daggers need to be sorted out, myself. Fights with bots on their own against each other, fights with me against bots.. They're just overpowered. The only flaw I can see in a brilliant melee system, though.
You're unique, just like everyone else.

I dont believe daggers are imbalanced, the complaining usually only occurs when someone whos extremely good manages to pull ahead and some big headed freak who cant accept that he isnt the best goes on a bash fest.

By now iv heard this with pretty much every weapon. Someone manages to win a couple of games and all of a sudden the weapon they r using becomes "cheap".

Sure daggers have some really good strong points, all weapons should, and instead of crying nerf you should try to learn how to develope strategies against the weapon.

That's because bots just run straight at you.

Right, the dagger can be easily beaten...

I just want to point out that the only time a bot ever killed me was with a katana... (well I died lots of times but only a katana has ever been able to seriously kill me).

Here's some dagger strats:

When they rush at you, move to the side and do a side swipe.
When they jump attack u, aka jump and spin, crouch and swipe.

If they try to side swipe you, it's like a weaker version of the mace...
