This might be the game to make me wish that I havedn't gotten UT2k4. Just kidding, that would never happen...
I really don't see what's so great about d3. Immersion and good story is the only thing that's good about it... What about the game play???
Got lots of hype, I just don't know if it can live up to them...

Naw! There are no real DX9 effects in Doom3. What a DX9 card will do is allow you to reduce the number of passes down to 1 in the graphics pipeline. And the few number of loops backs your graphic card does the better the prefromance. Doom3 has been a very hottly debated topic over on Beyond3D (3d site where I hang out). However to run in its ultra high IQ mode you will need a card with 512mb of memory!neolith wrote:Ok, now I need to have a DX9 card until August 13th.
PC Gamer Mag has said a "9800 class" card will be the sweet spot in terms of prefromance vrs price as they had a chance to review it already.
I am dissapointed in that its going to be a short game (under 24 hrs playing time for most people). The on-line version will be small matchs (some one said 4 or 8 players max in DM. And co-op is only availble via the XBOX version

That's about the thing I had in mind. I am still running a GF4200Ti...jb wrote:PC Gamer Mag has said a "9800 class" card will be the sweet spot in terms of prefromance vrs price as they had a chance to review it already.

funny how displacement maps were soppose to solve the problem of having to increase poly counts thus decreasing hardware performance expectations, and yet we still find ourselfs struggling with hardware. =P
i already have a geforce 4 6800, it rocks performance wise, regardless what some ATI freak says , fractional differences dont matter to me, and i dont plan to upgrade for another couple of years.
Doom 3 will be an awesome SINLGE PLAYER EXPERIENCE, its going to be awesome for fans of the original like me. And the physics system in half life 2 isnt all that great btw, valve even stated its somewhat restricted for gameplay purposes in one of the e3 video interviews.
As for multiplayer half life 2, the vehichles are like junk yard quality, if they are included in multiplayer i really dont feel like using them, a lawn mower converted into a trashy rusted speed boat woop dee doo. And counter strike with improved graphics isnt enough to get me to fork over 40 bucks.
half life 2 will be an awesome single player experience as well, online play is gonna suck just as much as doom for people like me who hate counter strike.
I think both games really have nothing to offer past the fan fair and awesome graphics, we should wait for the next generation graphics to set in before seeing some really amazing stuff, i mean look at the unreal engine 3 preview's graphics in comparison to doom 3's and hl 2's...no contest which is are better.
I still plan on buying both just for the sake of enjoying them, im getting tired of all the major titles being fpses though, which is why im really looking forward to black and white 2.
