Here's an idea of mine. you could choose the many different schools or give them all up for powerful magic. like the ability to control time or gravity. they both oppose each other. in time you have spells that slow down time( i.e bullet time-like) or hasten your movement. for gravity you could loosen the gravity on yourself, increase it on someone else to reduce their jumping and movement. or you could like summon a gravity vortex. these schools have HUGE prices to pay when casting and take longer to aquire spells. like to slow down time would also affect you and you could have like 20 health taken away and 10 points of mana. increasing movement speed would do the same, and you would waste ammo quicker and your shots would miss more often. for gravity having low gravity may not be a good thing because you might overjump it and you could easily be knocked back, even by an assault rifle. increasing gravity has much higher costs than normal gravity spells. and a vortex would have huge costs above all others and you still have to run from it.

plus here is a chaos sphere. the golden sphere. does 199 damage to non-vehicular players and reduces 50% permanently of vehicles health. but it has a 75% chance of backfiring. sometimes the effects may actually be temporary or it will do the opposite. gives the opponents 199 health and increases vehicle health by 50%. same when it backfires so it is a chance weapon. you use it or drop it.

this would be cool as long as it didn't end up like the godz mod for ut99
i think there should be concequences for delving into the black arts(eg damaging magic should hurt u as well um white magic (healing) should leave u breathlesss for a while (un able to move faster than a walk) maybe for ease use adrenalin or change the adrenalin to the mana pool like suggested before

i have another magic idea. transformation. you could make yourself metal, which would reduce jump and speed but gives you more defense. also you could become a monster but when you transform back you lose all your weapons except starting weps. and the final spell would be to hybrid yourself with all forms. that would be interesting to see but you lose control of yourself and you attack team members and enemies. you would especially go after anyone holding a game object( i.e a flag.) and you guard that object. on domination you just roam. chaos can decide the rest. or i can post it tomorrow. right now i am wiped out.

Anyone play the DarkMagic mod for UT99? I liked it. To my knowlege it never got entirely finished. The first version was just running around picking up scrolls to gain spells and spell levels, then vials of blue mana stuffs. Then they released a class system kinda like what you guys are talking about.
They used what was called schools and circles. Schools were things like a Shadow mage, Necromancer, something called like, a kairi or some such that used fire, etc. Then there were sliders on six circles of magic, with pretty much four points to allocate into each conflicting circle.
Example, two in air, two in earth, or just say "forget earth" and put all four into air. Your class was one list of spells that would grow as you leveled, and your circles gave you a certain number of spells that would level. Both lists spells can level, I mean, but the number of spells on the school list would grow as YOU gained exp.
I liked it. It was a bit buggy, but flying around summoning demons ( Unreal 1 skaarj) and making it rain fire was just plain cool.

got this idea from jb when he mispelt type as time.... how about contoling time as a magic... it would have to be hard to get cos to contorl time u would be able to rewind flags biend taken or scored with. i recomend like u have to collect two halves of a artifact to cast it ( one time use per life) and when u cast it u can rewind/ slow mo/ end
the first two r self explanitory but end would maybe be something like every one dies but the user doen't gain any frags but loses 2 (if its in something other than deathmatch u lose points for ur team)

Not much of a 'magic' fan myself, but Dark Magic in UT99 was pretty cool. I used to play it with Chaos from time to time.
It appears as if he/they are considering doing a UT2004 version.

you know, this doesn't have to be its own thing. it could be like a pickup. a small colored sphere or a colored staff. make it a random pick. time and space being the rarest to find. make it another pickup, like relics2K3 was. they were magical artifacts that gave you powers when you touched them. they spawn randomly across the map and you could configure which types would be in. we could do this with the magic. user could configure what sort of magic items would be distributed across the map, like fire with lightning only or all water. and we could decide on one thing that each staff would do. like the fire staff could launch a jet of fire or a fire ball or a tornado of fire where you are standing. it would also have a seperate button just as the gravbelt has. make the staff do only one action. and you can only pick up one at a time so that you don't go around picking up all the items and leave none for everyone. you have to use it before picking up another.
