Weapons design
the MUG is poor desing
What do you feel is wrong with it? Are you saying that the weapon model is poorly designed or that the weapon's function and attacks are bad?
The MUG is currently being redesigned in function so that it acts more liquid than the current MUG. I don't think there have been any plans to change the weapon's model, though.
Also, this thread is in the wrong place. It should be in the "General ChaosUT & ChaosUT2" section, not "Maps and Things".

The thought is liquid fire...so what should it look like?the ammo replacement animation kicks,as does almost everything else about the model
the only thing i think could be better is how it looks when the gun fires from first person....i would really like seeing holes added to the tip and little flame/smoke coming out of it when firing

Please note that the following statement is mainly based on my opinion, and no definate decisions have been made among the developers yet. This reflects thoughts I've had about the MUG for a long time, and reflects my own experiences while using it since its inception.
What I would like to do with the new effect is have it be liquid-based, somewhat like a real flamethrower. Now, obviously it's not possible to exactly mimic the behavior of a real liquid-based flamethrower in this engine, but we can get pretty close I believe. Also I'm not sure exactly what kind of code would be involved, but basically, when the weapon is fired, you'd see a glob of liquid shoot out in a stream (similar to one of those big squirt gun). The liquid would be flaming and would fall under gravity. If the liquid hit a surface, it would splash on the surface. The splash would act like normal splash damage and set anything in the damage radius on fire. It would also cause that surface to burn. The effect would create some smoke (but much less than it does now). We shouldn't have to worry about water or liquid interactions, because the effect would rely on the creation of invisible projectiles that use physics loosely based on grenades (so they bounce around and can float on water). This should cause the flaming liquid to float on the surface of water and burn.
I've done lots of experiments in Unrealed with different types of effects based on this and applied alot that I've learned since designing the original MUG effect. Although there is still alot that is uncertain about how this effect will work, research IS being conducted into making this the coolest thing you've ever seen, without burning your framerate as badly as it burns your enemies.
It is my hope that we can provide you with a much nicer flamethrower than what we have now, and better than anything any other mod team can produce. That's a tall order, perhaps, but if anyone can do it, Chaotic Dreams can.
As for the model, that's not my department.

Well, don't hold your breath. It could still be quite some time until this thing comes out. Especially now that we don't have deadlines to stick to. We can finally go back to spending our time on creating quality content instead of cramming as much new stuff into the mod as possible just so it's worthy of a new release by some deadline.

I just don't like the skin it's an ugly wihte metal, like sheet metal. and any weapon made outa that woulf fall apart anyway. And on top of that the weapon is way to uber, the thing I liked about Chaos before the MUG was how ballanced it all was. The MUG just takes that nice ballance and makes it go down the dumpster.neolith wrote:Well, it's supposed to look a bit like that actually. Can you give me a few more details on what you don't like?Duke-nukem+ wrote:hm... better moddel ../it looks like ,,tin can,,/
I like the idea but I think it would work better with a new model, and a liquid like Ice/Fire that has a short range.
I love the sound of tank shells in the afternoon, the firing of laser weapons in the morning, the sounds of bones under my feet.... Let the Chaos rain!
