Uh no? Network code can be modified for up to 64 player games.Deathstorm wrote:Well Doom 3 requires broadband, & it is just a 4 player multiplayer game. So that cuts out a lot of audiance.

Time constraints. Perfecting the network code would've taken them pass November, they want it out before half life 2.neolith wrote:Yes, but they must've chopped it down for a reason.General_Sun wrote:Uh no? Network code can be modified for up to 64 player games.

I blame the economy
It was Sgt. Pepper in the Bathroom with the candlestick .. at least I suppose it was a candlestick... Dunno why it needed batteries though.
Anyway ... you guys wont know unless you take a peak and see what the effort involved would be anyway. Some things in Chaos are easy to implement regardless of the physics engine .. others require some twisted trickery.
Btw .. I noticed you changed your avatar Rimmy .. cute. :p

Reality is what you can get away with
If you look at the screenies of the UE3, it doesn't look much like an Unreal game. I recall someone mentioning that it might be a tactically based game. The Source engine might be interesting to mess around with until you can get your hands on the Stalker or UE3 engines, though I think you'd be better off creating a totally different multiplayer game based off of the engine rather than do stuff with HL2. The physics engine would be really sexy with the Vortex and all, though.
PS: What do you think of the Reality engine?

i think that chaos should be continued on a futuristic,mp based shooter(which preferably doesnt leave SP completely)
futuristic so that chaos can be continued(i dont know how chaos could be put into a modern setting) without needing all the meshes remade
Mp based as i cant imagine CUT being a pure SP game

i think, from a mpping point of veiw, that the source engine would be best to move onto.
ive tried some mapping using the doom3 editor, and its horriffic. tedious, and limited. most of the detail in game is from textures, not like in ut where it is a combination of both mesh and texture. its horrible. The only good point is the real time window preveiw that is refreshed constantly, so u dont have to rebuild lights etc. other than that, its unpleasant.
god, ive also just remebered about that caulking guff in doom....ergh.
source should be cool. i heard there doin a aliens vs predator game using that engine, aswell as hl3 which should come out next year or so ive heard...
just depend wither u can actually access the source engine - i havent seen any mention of editors etc yet.
EDIT: D'oh! just relaised what the source SDK is, so i retract my statement about not having editors etc. Ill blame this on coffee....lol
