Installation of Chaos UT2 on Linux

Post by cypher »

As of now I am at a LAN party and after huge amounts of googling taking me round in circles I am left answerless on getting this amazing mod installed on my gentoo setup.

I have now downloaded the full 3.6 zip edition although I can find no resources on gettting this installed. Can someone either walk me through or send me to a site my hours of googling has somehow missed on how to get this mod installed.

I am running UT2004 3355 (ECE patch already in place) on Gentoo 2005.0 kernel 2.6.10 (gentoo dev sources). Latest nvidia drivers installed. NO other problems otherwise.

PLEASE help, I dont like the idea of spending the rest of this lan party downloading f*****g textures.

Alls you should have to do is unzip/untar it in your UT2004 Unix directoy (note when your done you should have a \ut2004\chaosut2 directory with other sub directories in the ChaosUT2 one). Start UT2004, go to the community menu and activate the mod. We dont have any more Linix testers but the last one(s) we had were able to get it to work in this mannor...

Thanks for comfirming what I eventually (after hours of messing around) managed to work out. Although until then I was unsure whether or not me doing that would bork my ut2004 setup.

I kinda didnt think about activating the mod, I just started the game expected the the game types to appear in 'Instant Action' (which of course they didnt). Afterwhich I copied the contents of chaoss ut2 folder on top of the rest of my files. Strangely enough UT2k4 started spat a load of messages about processing maps to the terminal and worked.

woo hoo, 'lets get together and explode'. I am one happy *nixer now.

Yea glad its working. You can also make a script to launch it directly. Here is the windows versions:

C:\UT2004\System\UT2004.exe -mod=ChaosUT2 -MainMenuClass=ChaosGames.ChaosGUI_MainMenu

so just "LINX-fie" that and you should be GTG.

I forget the linux commands, but how do you start a game of ut2k4 on linux? I mean is it like:

./usr/bib/ut2004/system/ut2004 ???

Anyways find the way to launch if via the command line, then add

mod=ChaosUT2 -MainMenuClass=ChaosGames.ChaosGUI_MainMenu

to the end of it and it should work.
