my monitor died

Post by R.Flagg »

but these things happen.

A bit of personal experience (gaming on this lcd I'm using now is not-so-good), and limited research tells me I want to stay with crt, so I'm going for one of these tomorrow, it'll be a step up from my dead 17"....

Samsung SyncMaster 19" CRT Monitor with DynaFlat Screen - Silver/Black Model: 997df

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... =06&loc=01,

supposedly in stock at my local store. Here's wishing me luck.

From what I can tell, it should be good gaming for the price ($200). Just posting this in the off chance anyone who reads this wants to share some insight on why I shouldn't proceed.

Should be just fine.

In order have a good gaming experince you want the LCD response time to be faster than the FPS your pulling our else you will see ghosting.
For example an LCD with a 16 ms response time is approx 62 FPS so if you keep your vsync lock at 60, it will work fine. The now have LCDs with 8 ms response time which gives you 125 FPS. The problem is these faster LCDs cost money....

So yea CRTs giving you better gaming for a much lower cost...

you can get a 19inch LCD for $275, but it only has 16ms response time.

Thanks for the replies.

As it turns out, I went ahead and got it, and I couldn't be happier. So far, everything seems not only better, but much much better.

Not only larger screen (I gained just over 2in on the diagonal), but the colors all seem a lot better too. The explosions and all that jazz in the game are just awesome, the anti-glare thing really seems to work too. Text is clear even when I'm scrolling down the page...the silver and black matches the silver and black tower I got recently.....and so on.

It's even got this software so you can do all your monitor adjustments with your mouse, instead of those buttons on the monitor.

Anyway, thanks. Worked out great. I'd recommend it for anyone else looking.
