was just reading R.Flagg's testominial thingy

I was thinking about this and thought this might be a cool implimentation

your teamates have to charge you up to fire the teleporter

you fire it and down comes a booth like thing, and you could have a light coming out the top like in ons, this could then be used as a teleporter, but has a limited number of teleports in a certain time, and charges on its own

To keep things fair i think thats how it would have to work, you can step into any both, and teleport to another (Aslong as its your teams booth)

the desination booth loses the charge though

And you shouldnt start with any charge for the gun, just the gun

and you shouldnt be able to take the flag in, otherwise you could have one at your flag and one at theirs and just port back and forth and get like 5 points before the charge is lost ....

also some way of limiting the number of booths, and getting rid of pointless booths might have to be added

If this didnt happen, you could port anywhere on the map (a bit unfair .....) so you might want to be limited to 6 or so booths

But if a teamate fired one for a specifit reason, it could just sit there being pointles for the rest of the game, when u might actually need one later for a proper reason

The "booth" could be a 4 pronged structure coming to a top where the light would emit from, and to use it, you go in and jump up, (otherwise you could fire a booth to obstruct a way through, for the other team, or your team wouldnt be able to pass through beacause a port menu would come up)

Just a thought, this might be cool to do ;) if you care about it

Any ideas on this ? ....

Maybe you could have it so only the person who made the portall can destroy it somehow

and each player can only have a single portall ...

But then the enemy really needs to be able to stop you from using them, incase you put them like at their base

Maybe it could be set so that the portalls can be destroyed if within a certain radius of a flag or node or somthing ....

so that you cant spawn really close to things that could give you an unfair advantage

Lol this thing would be a nightmare to code

The general principle of "getting the portall" could be the same as the turret, but getting them to work might be more difficult

And maybe on onslaught you could have it so you can port between any node or a portall ....

Think this could be an interesting idea, if you could impliment it fairly

If they were destructible, they should be tough to destroy
Maybe like 3/4 or as tough as a node on ons

Or if its a distance based thing you should make them difficult to destroy, but not too difficult
Maybe like 1/2 or 1/4 the toughness of a node

you should be able to repair with link gun, or they regenerate at a certain rate, if their destructable ..

You could do this, but those pillars come out of the 4 little prongy bits, and use the same kind of texture, then come to a circle or somthing at the top where the light comes out of

And this could be the booth, or somthing more elaborate ;)

Mmmm, hard one to figure

Its getting it so that the game will still be fair, so you dont want to make somthing too powerful ....

i think if u add all my ideas together (really their R.Flagg's ideas with some more though and elaboration on them ;))

I think it could just work, and would be pretty awsome :wink:

But if u were playing with bots, how the hell would u get this to work, they never link with the link gun :evil: :evil:

Thanks for the discussion. But as with most/all good ideas, it needs more time and thought.

Even for my own development/design ideas, I prefer to wait a week or so, and then come back to them again. Sometimes even in just the span of a week you can see things you overlooked before, or you may come up with a better way to go.

But anyway, about this...

..., the bots will in fact link up with you. Try playing on higher-skill level bots, and then telling them to 'cover' you. Getting a single bot to link with you usually isn't a problem.

What I don't usually see however, is bots making a full 3-player chain. Either on their own, or with me. I've seen it happen, but it seems to be kinda rare. Mostly they just do '2-player' chains.

Mmm that is a pain ...

Anyway if u could add some more ideas to the equation that wud be cool

it was ure original idea ;)

I think this would be a pretty wiked thing to do, if it could be done without unbalencing the game

I like Flagg's idea of letting the ideas sit on the windowsill for a week and see if they don't start to stink.
