Single player tourney

Post by ShadowMachine »

WOOOO. It's been forever since i've been here. Anyway, don't you guys think its a good idea to have an SP ladder? I mean, no offense guys, it's been kinda slow lately, and there are practically no servers with people in them. So, whadda ya say? (Chaos Duel would totally pwn in teh single playerz0rs)

I thought he meant like in UT2K4's default SP mode. I wouldn't mind something like that. Maybe with a few more RPG elements, larger team support, and the ability to have melee duals along with the 1v1 DMs and bloodmatches and stuff.

I always thought it would be neat to force the player to pay for ammo and weapons to take into a fight (or maybe just weapons) and remove random drops.

Also, if someone DOES do this, replace Double Domination with classic domination plzzzzzzzipflap.

Well, I think combining idea from UT2004RPG would be neat. I mean, I like how that works in matches, but really, it's a bit silly to have it persistently save stuff if you're just doing some instanct action here and there. A long-term campaign, ala UT2004's ladder, would be neat, though, and would work great with it, although levelling should be turned down -- exp would be awarded, not on kills, but on matches won, and bonuses (like killing sprees, flawless victories, etc.).

As mentioned, melee duals would be added along with 1on1 and bloodmatch.

Obviously, KOTH would also be added, and chaos CTF (which is a lot better than normal CTF. Having to literally drag the flag back to the base is a lot... better, and more strategic) would replace normal CTF.

I'd also suggest adding in Jailbreak (which is probably my favorite gametype AFTER classic dom) and replacing DDom with classic domination, although getting permission to do that would be hard.

Erm, and afforementioned things about bigger team sizes, buyable weapons and ammo... make money more useful.

Oh, and maybe different math paths. Like instead of spending money to change an arena, after each one you beat, you pick one of two to go onto next, and it just sort of branches. Ideally, this also affects what teammates and stuff you open up.

---edit---

This may go beyond CUT's scope, though. But it's a neat idea to consider. I liked UT2K4's single player ladder a lot -- the team management and really, really good bots help that sort of thing -- but it could still be expanded a lot. And I do find it odd that UT got a ton of SP mods, while Ut2K4 only has Alien Swarm, as far as a genuine SP ladder goes. And I mean, Alien Swarm is really !@#%ing amazing, but more'd be nice.
