I think a railgun (Q3 style)
would be an awsome addition to this mod
. With the UT2k3 engine you could really make it look P!mp. Picture a high velocity explosive slug that can pass thru players until it makes contact with a solid surface like wall, killing them or hurting them very badly. I think a instant 1 hit wonder weapon is always great, sure it might be slow to charge up again, but that only means ull have to hone that aim but ull be rewared much better for that 1 key shot. That spiral effect could look badass
in UT2k3, maybe it could also start to settle towards the ground and break apart into a fine mist...let me know what u guys think

Do you know that in realality a "Rail Gun" is a weapon that uses rare earth magnets, and and electric coils (basically electirc magnets) to fire heated solid steel beams that would split on impact with a solid surface. But this weapon is only theroetical.
In Q3A, the Rail Gun fires Depleted Urainium shells, which are the same things that modern day tanks use today. Modern tanks use Depleted Urainium instead of lead for large tank rounds because Depleted Urainium is more dense than lead!

Kodiak: I have actually seen one of those fired in real life.... It is called a SABO Round. It fires depleted uranium and actually doesn't blow up the tank, but instead it impacts and shoots a rod through the tank, then leaves a silver dollar size hole on the other side, the vacume it creates sucks everything out that little hole, to include wiring, seats, people, anything not bolted down.

The rail gun that you guys have completed for chaos evo. will we be able to use it like we did in Q3 for close quarters action and anything else, Or will its primary role be a sniper rifle where it does decent dmg but u only get a instant kill if the person has low health or its a head shot ?

One of the things that Major was working on in the Quake 3 Mod I thought was pretty cool.
The alternate fire on the Railgun could shoot through walls. I know a lot of people wouldn't like it and consider it a cheat, but in the play
testing we did it was fun as hell to estimate where somebody was behind a wall and Rail them, also you could shoot through them
but not see through them so it was still a challenge.
The physics were set up so that the more walls it went through the more it lost power...
So it could go between 2-3 walls before diminishing.
Also we wanted to make it hard to get the alternate Railgun by either having a pick up Ruin to power it, or having to have so many slugs for it to work.
Then the mappers could make multiple layer hardened bunkers that could act as Safe Zones if they wanted, would have been a blast in CTF maps.
A lot of discussion went into this idea and would have made it into the Beta.
After play testing we found that it really, really discourages campers and speeds up the play.

Okay good, cuz if it had to become a sniper rifle that would suck. The way the current rail bolt projectile is set up now maks this impossible to implement. It may be able to do but the UT/UT2k3 engine handles these types of phsics differently than Q3 engine did. Thus as it stand now, its full power. Note this is all subject to change based on feedback from play testing. I really do like what you guys did with the Q3 version.The physics were set up so that the more walls it went through the more it lost power...

Not all of us feel this way. Many of us enjoy the classic sniping. And so, after much discussion amongst the team, the decision was posted in the news a few weeks back;Okay good, cuz if it had to become a sniper rifle that would suck. You see, this new weapon we're talking about will rotate with the LG and the Chaos Sniper Rifle. Which means there will be 3 weapons to snipe with.And I am very happy to say that we will be bringing back the popular Chaos Sniper Rifle!
