Ownage? Let's see, shall we?

Cliffy smoke the crack does he? Or have previous selections simply been more of a marketing thing to encourage folks to map?

I'm exaggerating about the crack of course, but none of the first few maps he has bestowed this honor on are actually worthy of it. And yea, I think I can back that statement up with specific points from each map if needed.

Of course that's irrelevant, but so is much of what I do for fun. And one of my absolute favorite things to do is talk maps. With this in mind, today I hope to find the time to play the latest 2 additions to his coca leaf inspired list.

CTF-Arrakis (this one first of course; "DM is so four years ago" -Cliffyb) hehe

DM-Liandri_v02 (NOT the same version currently on Moo'vin Hoovin. Willing to make a change if the quality is there Furry?)

As always, I would really enjoy a good thread debating these maps if anyone is interested.

Cliffy started to soon. Everyone can make a goodlooking map by creating a displacement map for the terrain and throw in some static meshes. But who cares in a month or 2 he will get bored again and stop checking all the previewpics wannabe mappers send him.

Btw I think Cliffy knows those maps don't own :!:

Ok, thanks to my baby daughter taking a nap right on cue, I've already ran thru one round on each map.

CTF-Arrakis - Pretty good actually. I enjoyed my first round, and with teams of 4 each, the masterful bots beat me, which is great. Though I wasn't floored by it. Seemed a bit too flat overall for one thing.

DM-Liandri-v02 - Well..., after one round, I am prepared to say that the UT2 mappers out there can stop remaking Liandri now, for it is done.

Massacre and I take a moment to gawk at the new 'deemer placement in Liandri_v02. We both approved.

(forgive the low res - I was trying to actually play at the time)

These opinions after only 1 round each. Subject to change of course after many, many more.

The tested Maps are not bad but not the real non-plus-ultra. ;)

I think the most ownage-like map is DM-1on1-Alpu2 and Linadri (this was an UT classic anyway ;)).
And not every ownage Map for old UT owned really in my opininon, so we have to wait what maps will come in future, it can go only better. ;) There are still missing some maps of the great mappers for old UT, in the moment it seems either Cliffy favorizes two mappers or no one else submits maps to Cliffy or the quality is just too bad like the first maps which just appeared a few days after release... ;)

FurrySound wonders what R. Flagg's daughter is doing in that picture.. thought you said she was sleeping... MEDIC!! 8O :D (I just couldn't help myself, sorry :D )

If you think v.02 is that much better, then replacement is on its way. Just drop me a link to the file location and I will swap it out ASAP.

Well that's very kind of you Furry, although it would be funner to debate it, and see if you agree. Would hate to have it changed only to find out I'm the only one who liked it better.

Truth is the one up there now is closer in layout than the 2nd. But that was intentional of course. He took a few liberties and modified it a bit, and I like the changes.

Plus, the 1st one runs faster, due to less detail. Again, I prefer the detail, slower or not. But maybe others wouldn't.

I realize not everyone is into debating maps, and that's cool. But it can be a good way to try and run maps that will keep folks fraggin.

Dues - yeah, I like Alpu as well. Not sure its what I'd call ownage, but it doesn't suck. If we can pull it off, maybe you could 'invite me over' one night, and we could try and have a go in there. :)

FurrySound{Moo} notes the lack of comment regarding the image... probably cause R. Flagg is sharpening his blade... 8O

I will have to checkout the v2 Liandri and see how it runs... will let you know...
