Grappling hook suggestion

Post by Cyrus Ramses »

I don't know about anyone else, but I think the Chaos weapons are great. However, sometimes I feel like just using the regular UT 2k4 weapons, but also using the grappling hook, because in all seriousness, that's been my favorite part of the Chaos mod since I got it for UT '99. Unfortunately, the only way to get the hook is to activate the entire Chaos mutator, and use Chaos weapons.

My suggestion is adding the grappling hook as a separate mutator, as well as being part of the whole Chaos mutator. I have a few friends who feel the same way as well.

Well, it's good to have friends. Rock on.

And yes, the grapple rules. It's not just an item in a mod, it's a whole 'way' of playing FPS games (non-realism ones at least). The hook is how I found the original Chaos mod way back when. I was coming from Hexenworld ( playing with xbows and swords and hooks ) and started my Q2 mod search by looking for mods with an off-hand hook. Chaos was an quick and easy end to my search. But enough of the old man rambling "back when I was a kid... ", sorry.

Anyway, we have never released individual items from our mod on their own. However, for quite some time now there has been an INI option to turn off all the weapons.

And in the version that is due out soon, that INI option has been moved to the GUI (just select 'none'):

So to get the Chaos hook you'll still need Chaos, but you can turn off the weapons if that's what you want.

And what's new (at least first time since our Q2 version), is that now it's not just an "all or none" choice. Now you can turn off all but one, or all but two, and so on.

So if you choose 'cycle', and turn on only one Chaos weapon - that weapon, and only that weapon, will cycle with it's UT2004 counterpart. No other Chaos weapons will show.

Or if you choose 'swap', and turn on only one Chaos weapon - that weapon and only that weapon will replace it's UT2004 counterpart. No other Chaos weapons will show.

And so on. Hope that's enough for you and your buds.

Sweetness. I never knew about the INI setting.
