Any Chaos players want to help populate a server?

So...I have two UT servers running. One of them, the RPG invasion server, has an average playerload of 10/16, but the other (see below) is completely empty (24 slots). I thought I'd post it here in case you guys want to start playing on a Chaos server or maybe if the mod team wants to use it as a test server.

The server is on a 100 Mbit pipe with a private redirect (I have a script that uz2's all files on it when I upload them.) It's great for mods - downloading 120 MB (compressed size) on my connection takes about 4 minutes. It also has about 1,200 GB of unused bandwidth per month.

Right now the server is set up with ChaosUT 3.6, as well as some other really wacko gametypes, and it used to have a fairly good amount of players until 3369 broke duel. Then everyone left.

I can also set up symlinks to the log files created on crashes if anyone wants to use it for debugging...

Hey heheman3000, thanks a lot for the servers. About your Chaos server, though Duel is broken, it would be nice to have a place to play melee dm. Perhaps your server can be a melee dm server for those of us who wishes to play that gametype? For good maps you could probably rename some of the duel maps to DM, or some of the bonus pack maps, those could always work. Thanks!

All the Chaos gametypes are already on the server, and all of them are melee-only except CTF. Chaos DM is melee by default (There are lots of other guns-only DM gametypes on the server.) All Duel and DM maps are already enabled for DM, and TDM. (If anyone gives me a link to that latest Duel map pack, I'll add that too.)

There are literally about 750 maps on the server...and always adding more.

If you could, can you make it so that you have a chaotic weapons and a melee only option? I really like proxies and the needle ammo (KAMI!!!!!!!!)

Yes sir, we have a great need for a permanent test server that comes with a full-time team member server admin. As much as I don't hate quoting myself, here's a quote from myself

It sure would help Chaos right about now.

And if there exists someone out there who can provide not just a temporary one, but a permanent one - and is capable and willing to constantly make changes to the settings so that we can test all the various game types and stuff we have..., then we are probably talking about a full-time Chaos team membership here.

Bottom line is that we are in need of either a temporary dedicated server to test upcoming release, or a permanent full time server admin.

I realize this can be hard to come by, but it never hurts to ask.

We have found a temporary test server since that post, but long term is what I'm referring to now.

Sure...no one uses that server right now. The only caveat is that there is a lot of other stuff installed along with ChaosUT on that server - although it shouldn't break anything. I could also set up a separate UT server (a third one), if you guys wanted a clean install with no other mods, although I was hoping there is some way I could get some players on my PvP server (the PvE server gets boring.) However, if you posted my server as one of the game servers on this site (you know, publicity), we could have a public chaos server (with real players!) and a separate private one for you to test on.

I am enrolled full time in college - My response to changes probably wouldn't be instant, although if I received an e-mail I'd go do whatever changes you wanted. We're not talking about a lot here, because we only have the Chaos mod, right?

This server is pretty permanent - The guy who pays for it runs a business online which receives about 30k hits a day. He won't be disappearing anytime soon. I just get to use his server for free by managing it. It's hosted, so that means the hardware makes me angry (3.06 GHz P4, 2 GB RAM) but I love the connection speed - The 100 Mbit connection actually reaches those speeds.

Yes, I do need a 'clean server' for this permanent position. And if you think about it, there wouldn't be a need for the other items anyway if the server is a permanent beta test server for the mod, as they would never get used. We would need a full install of UT2004, all it's packs and patches, and always the latest IR of Chaos, and most likely nothing else at all.

Most of the day to day changes I would need could be accomplished by giving me access to a web admin. The other stuff would be less frequent, like updating to latest IR or whatever. And in those cases I would never expect instant-response. We all have our RealLive's to deal with.

Not that we pay much.

As you know. But you would of course be able to participate in the dev discussions and testing, helping to shape the mod itself. That much we can do.

And yes, we can certainly help to promote your public Chaos servers. I can do that whether you decide to shoot for our server admin position or not. Usually I tend not to list them on our server page if there are so many other mods and muts running that Chaos is lost in the shuffle so to speak, of if Chaos is only run every other Fat Tuesday for an hour.

Any chance you can come into IRC on an at least semi-regular basis? We hang out there pretty much every day. Or we can take this to PMs.

For future reference general, I still have my Chaos server running at 82.165.176.170:8777. With all melee except CTF. I simply started another server for the dev team. Please bring some players there for me and we will have lots of fun. The server will stay up indefinitely so we can actually build a playerbase.

Yes...My server(s) are a split-off from that server because I used to help out there and I didn't like the way he ran it. In fact, if you look at our RPG files, the exp at certain levels is exactly the same.
