Is it hard to make these maps?

I want to try to remake some of the quake2 maps,is there a program that helps builds the maps or do i have to do it all from scratch?

Pretty much from scratch afaik, although I only dabbled in mapping a long time ago.

Edit: Someone move this thread to appropriate section?
