well, more of a modification really. I read (in one of these posts) where the crossbow will have 5 shots before reloading, and that got me thinking about how (realtively) useless the normal crossbow arrows are.

What I was thinking of was a secondary fire (or tertiary?) for the normal arrows that could be used like a coup de gras were it fires all 5 normal arrows at once (think of the weapon demonstration in the fifth element).

I think it would be nice to get an enemy down to being nearly dead or cornered somewhere and just pumping the arrows into them (tarantino/john woo style)

I don't think they are so useless anymore, I'd be happy to use you as a target for demonstration :twisted:

Thats a Great idea. So much so that we used it and even went one better ;)
The crossbows firing types are: (works with all ammo types)
Primary: Single /repeat
Alt: load up to 5 and shoot at once
Alt2: a single chargable arrow that will do extra damage.
( a toggle key switches alt modes )

Why not just both mouse bouton press att the same time like the Rocket launcher in UT2003???? that would be easy enought to decide witch one to shoot..

Oh and why not make it like the bio rifle : the more time you leave your finger on the bouton the more ammo you ues but the more damage it does

Cross bow alt fire has two modes...

A Charging mode where you increase the tenssion on the bow to increase the velocity of the arrow. Note all damage done by arrows are related to the velocity that they are traveling when they hit you. So the more "charge" you put on the arrow the more damage it does.

Then there is an multi-mode. The mult mode is usefull for taking out players standing close to each other. And up close the spread of the arrows has not cause them to seperate so they are still close. IE up close 5 arrows to the back deadly. Think of it as a shot gun..up close high damage...far away less damage.

That sounds very nice. I think i'd probably only use it with the normal arrows, and maybe poison, but I think doing it with the explosive arrows could be a tad excessive :)

Might be, might be. Let's give it a go when BETA 1 is out and find out!

I am fine with the Alt fire exp arrows owning some people. Sure, needs to be within reason, but that weapon is meant to be powerful at times.

Does charged arrow effect the damage output of an explosive arrow?

I haven't noticed that charging the arrow really increases the damage that much, for any arrow type. Would be nice for sniping if it did as much damage as the sniper rifle when fully charged.

I think a charged arrow should act like an armor-piercing (or shield piercing) arrow. Imagine an exploding arrow going off when it's stuck in you! OUCH!

Nope. It does no damage...the damage comes from the exposion.

it would be cool if the regular arrows had small detenators on them. they would do hardly any damage but it would look cool.

the bow should break if you keep it charged too long. that would be cool.

Nope, a built in safty feature of the bow causes the weapon to fire when its at full charge...just before you get to that point it shakes :)

ok enough!!!
we need a flamer, a sit-in stationary turret, and BABY NUKEM DOLLS!!!
but i have a cool suggestion...
a placable mine-like weapon which works like that really bad music in MARS ATTACKS!! As u get closer, the music gets louder and ur vision goes shaky, ur controls flip and u slowly lose health (faster when close, with a head-gib effect)
it could look like a gramophone and be able to be placed on vehicles for drive-bys!!
tell me what u think of this!!
i'd make it but my skills = poor.
anyhow--consider+comment!
oh and the bow...
should shake at full charge so its really hard to aim--but awesome at close range!
