I just had this idea.. how about a classic sling shot? UT2003 supports distance on how long you hold the fire button down. Example-The gernades on the assault gun.. The Sling Shot Would be cool... Different ammo types like the crossbow.. and the gernade launcher..
Rocks are of course the regular ammo...
Explosives...
Glass... :twisted:
Nails... :twisted:
ect.

Just a idea.. :wink:

Does not really seem to fit in with Chaos, but I wonder what the others think. I was going to start a thread myself sooner or later or what the Link Gun replacement could be, but seeing as it is already here, might as well throw out ideas, later :) .

What about the return of the Utility Gun? Should it shoot something different from fire this time as we already have two flamming weapons? Seeing as there already been a discussion on the Assault Rifle replacement, the Chaos Pulse Pistol, has their been a discussion on the Link Gun's replacement?

*Gets hard at work thinking of own idea of something that would fit in with Chaos*.

There has been a bit of it... and i did hear rumors of a utility gun. I think the idea is still open to debate though but that depends on the modellers and the coders.

Among other things i think one of its suggested ammo selections was a freeze ray....

Is the pushing mode going to work any different or what about the fire mode change button? Will the freeze ray work kind of the same to the ice rounds from the UT verison? Any news about an automatic weapon or close range weapon (shotgun)? I know, lots of questions, but I'm trying to help myself here :wink: .

BTW, rather then start a whole new thread, is any custom skins/models going to be made? I think I saw a Chaos Knight or something awhile back.

Personally I hate the link gun - bots are too good with the secondary fire :)

I liked the shotgun from ChaosUT and wouldn't mind if that came back in - it seemed to have a good balance in the game

Or take that old mod for UT1999 and add it to the link gun and change the skin for it. The mod I refer to is Team Freeze(at least I think that is the name, been awhile.) Anyway the energy beam from the weapon would freeze the opponent solid, afraid I don't recall much else about the mod. But it would be cool to freeze somebody then use the "Do Kick" key bind to shatter them like in T2. :twisted:

I remember SPA talking about making a flamethrower/freezeray gun out of the link.

As I remember, the flamethrower is an Unreal2 style flamethrower, which catches everything on fire that it hits. Your basic ultimate sweeping weapon. It sounded pretty cool.

There would be a second ammo for the gun, which SPA said would be some kind of nitrogen charge or something. Basically, it produces a "beam" like the linkgun beam, but bluish-white instead and it freezes people. They can then be broken into pieces for a kill.

As he explained it, frozen people would thaw over time or could be thawed quickly using the flamethrower, and burning people could be extinguished with the freezer.

I had a somewhat different idea for a linkgun replacement, which was basically a stun-gun. It uses a beam like the linkgun but does not cause health or shield damage. Instead, it inflicts stun damage which goes through shields. When the stun damage reaches 100, the player goes into ragdoll mode (the ragdoll, which is client-side and used only for visual effect, becomes attached to a dummy server-side actor which is then used to track the player's actual physical position), and basically moves with basic projectile physics. They can fall off cliffs, etc. Falling damage is doubled when stunned, but the stun effect wears off over time. Eventually, the player can wake up and continue from wherever they ended up. The secondary fire of the stun-gun will wake up someone who's stunned, so teammates can use it to wake up thier friends. It also gives someone a temporary immunity to stunning when they are hit with it. When stunned, a player can still be killed by normal weapons, so it's still very lethal. Just stun your enemy, then shoot him while he's down (talk about evil!). Or, if someone is camping on a cliff, hit em with the stun gun and they will fall off the cliff and die when they hit the ground.

But it's obvious that a replacement needs to be found for the link gun. It doesn't fit with chaos, and needs to be replaced ASAP.

I love the flamethrower/freezrray idea but I think it would be nice it there would the air-jet that will make the weapon Flamethrower/Freezeray/Air-Jet.

EDIT:
After some thinking I came up with an idea, the primery fire would shot somethin like freezebolts & flameballs and for the air it would be some kind of mid firerate air blasts, the altfire would be a flamethrower/freezeray
and you could charge up the air presure .

I'm pretty sure that it will in general still be the basic fire/ice/air combo.

Now exactly which of the many ideas are settled on, and then actually end up working out with models and code and graphics, and the oh so important "Wow!" factor...

Yes, the linkgun needs replacing. The CAS12 *might* work, but I can't see it fitting in with all the other weapons much. And I never really liked the utility gun from CUT.

The stungun idea is pretty good, but it could be overly powerful. Plus it's impossible afaik to have a model go into ragdoll while still alive; it's the reason they can't have feign-death animations.
