CUTTER mode idea

Post by -Penfold- »

So many times could I have made good use of such a function:

You know an enemy's around a corner, only problem is you have to hit him directly if you bounce the disc. Why not have a toggle to make primary or secondary fire such that it bounces only once, the second impact is an explosion. This (IHMO) would make the CUTTER a much more usefull weapon.

Perhaps even take it a step further. Make it fire upon primary button release. Tapping the button would make it bouce once then explode on next impact. Holding down the primary and tapping the secondary would add one more bounce per secondary tap, then fired on release. Or perhaps even make it so that the left button fires and the right button "arms" the disc in flight, making it explode the next time it impacts. Making it explode instantly would make it too powerfull, though, like a shock rifle combo without the skill required for the combo hit.

[edit]
Same idea, different excecution: Use the weapon setting button to change between standard primary and secondary and a mode where primary is single bounce then next impact explodes, and secondary is dual bounce then next impact explodes. This would probably be the simplest way of doing it functional use in-game-wise and (I'm guessing here) simplest way to code it. Does anyone on the Chaos team like this idea?

[/edit]

If this makes the weapon a bit too powerfull, balance could be restored by making it able to have only one round aloft at a time, the next round would be fired after the preceding round explodes.

man i love this Idea . This is just what the cutter has been missing. It ' would be even better if we threw in the cutter vector Idea Shadowstar brought up a while back , you know , the one where the cutter shards angle and velocity is related to the angle of impact. when I have more time , I'll look back and quote it.

Sweet. Thanks for the feedback.

Anyone else reading this thread... If you like the idea, please say so. If this get's enough responses, the Chaos team might take notice.

I'm not much of a modder, but I wouldn't think the 1 or 2 bounce modes would be too difficult at all to code. Especially by executing it with the bolded revision I added above.

Nice idea there, could make the Cutter much more useful, as of now getting around the corner hits are hard.

Hence my updated execution, the bolded one, of the idea eliminating this harder to code and less functional in game mode.

I think the number of bounces should depend on the angle the cutter blade impacts whatever surface it hits, kinda like the number of bounces you get when you skip a stone across water. The same for fragment ricohchet, where the fragments go should depend on the angle the blade hits. Another good idea that was mentioned (I think it was at least), is to have a delayed blast on the cutter blade's secondary fire. Bounce BOOM!
