Projectile Side Weapons in duel mode

Post by KewlAzMe »

I know Im very Ninja-Oriented, games like tenchu ruined me, :P But I was thinking maybe while fighting in Duel style arenas, you could include a small dagger or throwing axe type secondary weapon that could fit in nicely to a combo move. Thinking, Katana sword in one hand slash slash, and as the person runs away, throw a dagger at the guy.

OR

Allow the grapple hook to Pull your enemies to you, or at least hurt them when you hit them with it.

Yes, do this... I luv this idea of the grapple pulling your enemies to you and maybe doing like 5-damage... kinda reminds me of Scorpion Image... "Get over here!" MUAHAHAHA!

We specifically disabled the grappple's person to person functions in duel because in melee mode it made it insanely powerful. Run up and spam the grapple and your opponent was toast.

I think there really needs to be something done about players running away from other players in DUEL mode. It's the reason I altogether stopped playing it, because I'd get into this scenario alot:
  • -You hit the other guy.

    -Other guy runs away.

-Other guy hides (Or in smaller maps keeps running away.)

    -Minutes pass.

-You are both killed because time ran out.

There must be some way to deter this type of behavior, like ranged weapons. BUT then with ranged weapons you get THIS scenario:
  • -You hit the other guy.

    -Other guy runs away.

-Other guy hides (Or in smaller maps keeps running away.)

-While running and/or hiding he pelts you with arrows.

-You are killed because you couldn't hit him with your sword.

So I'm not sure what the answer is, perhaps a stamina bar limiting running? Hmmm...

There's not an easy answer to that Brian, but I understand why folks bring it up. What I have pointed out before though, is that this tactic is not new to Chaos Duel.

You will see the same thing in DM, and CTF for example, sometimes even in the 'competitive' matches. Players with a 1 or 2 point lead in a 1on1 DM match can spend the rest of the match running away. Players in a CTF match can do the same thing, after picking up enemy flag. It amazes me how many folks find this tactic acceptable play in CTF. (but not to worry, we've got plans to put a stop to that in ChaosCTF)

The short, smart answer is to play someone else, or play somewhere else. But of course I realize that's not always easy, lack of servers, or players, or whatever.

The next best option I suggest is to encourage the admin to play with the Chaos mutator enabled, so that you may use the grappling hook to more easily catch the lamer.

Anyway, I do understand the issue, but it's a common one to many game types, and there isn't any quick-fix. Yes, some anti-camper mutators and stuff are out there, but I have never seen one that worked to my liking, and to be honest, I don't think there ever will be. I'm afraid lame tactics will always be a part of online gaming.
