Wondering how the Vortec will effect vehicles.

....to be more specific,
Are the Goliaths and Leviathans heavy enough to remain in the ground? If not, is their armour strong enough to allow one to survive a vtec if they were in a vehicle?
Since the Raptor's "grid array vectors gravity away from whichever direction the pilot chooses, allowing the Raptor to accelerate", will it vector the enormous pull of the vtec to allow a super boost?
The MyU 2K3 Invasion server had no self damage and no friendly fire damage. In the map 'Amrak Pass - DriveBy' where players could drive vehicles, a car was the safest and most profitable place to survive a vtec. Vtecs would pull all the monsters and any vehicles to the center, then the vehicles would gyrate or orbit the active Vortec. Each pass would cause the vehicle to collide with any living monsters and smash them...points, points, points...the easy way.

After awhile guys would coordinate Vtec tosses and the vehicles would head straight for ground zero. If a no friendly fire or no self damage mutator were used in a UT2K4 Chaos server could we expect the same?
From the responses on the MyUnreal forums there are quite a few folks eager to drive in a Chaos Invasion environment.

imo it will be as with rockets
different vehicles are heavyer,so propably levis and goliaths will be barely lifted from the ground,while raptors will be sucked it(doesnt the vortex suck in everything including air?)

Oh man, that's something I didn't even think about. I can't begin to imagine how crazy, dare I say chaotic

, that will look.
How bout some pics of all these vehicles spinning around to wet our appetites for destruction?? The vortex is easily the scariest damn super weapon ever made.

TKATK has the right Idea , Vehicles have different weights and the vortex affects them to varying degrees.

I messed around with bulldogs in a test map of mine, using the vortex... The bulldogs fly around... But there were two bugs. The bulldogs didnt blow up, even though they had no armor, this is because they werent attacked directly by a player's weapon (I think the ut2004 vehicles have been overhauled, and this shouldnt happen). The second bug was that sometimes the car would land on the vortex, this would move the vortex a little, which would pull the car into it again... effectively moving both a great distance, accelerating greatly until the vortex died.

Here's an area where we just might end up doing some tweaking some day, but for the most part I like it right now.
I thought that simply dropping the vortex in, and having it just simply suck up all vehicles and kill everyone no matter what, was just too easy and cheesy. Actually having it interact based on what it is we're talking about instead, seemed a funner, more 'involved' way to go.
And from the dev section (it's pretty generic, don't think he'd mind) we have this quote from Mr. Jb;
The vortex pulls via this formula: strength = Gravity * DeltaTime * (2.1 - 2 * Square(dist / Range));
I added in this for vehciles only: strength = strength/SVehicle(thisActor).VehicleMass;
Thus the ammount its pulled is decrease by the "weight" of the vehicle. So the heavier it is, the less its pulled.
And in the game, I think it's pretty cool stuff. I've been in a tank, and have it not sucked up, but pulled backwards by the vortex (it was close though). And I've been pretty near them in Raptors and survived, though affected. IMO, this is great coding, because there is some nice interaction, instead of a black/white vortex=your dead.

No. Turns out there is a slight deceleration in the transfer rate of photons in the atmosphere surrounding a Vortex, thereby effectively neutralizing any potential increase (or "super boost") one might have reasonably theorized would have otherwise occurred as a result of the Raptor's physics.

At the request of players, we made it so that in the Invasion game type only, the vortex will respect the FF rules. So in that respect, yes, you can just toss it anywhere you want, and not even check for teammates, and they will live.
However, since vehicles are affected by weight, you may not achieve the same results that you are describing. But come on now, is that really so bad?

I'm sure you guys will find new tricks, IF this one isn't the same as before.

Man I hope so. We would love to have some folks playing online with us.
Thanks

Well, it just so happens that today we were messing around with the vortex. We were trying to see if we could reach the ONS Bomber with the vortex to kill it. Instead we got to see something else!
Before this we weren't really sure what the vortex would do to the air strike missiles. Welp, now we know!
Better hope they don't get redirected at you!

Sweet.
Make that a hyperlink to the full sized pic if you can, or just link me please.

That's a very nice technique to counter the enemies superweapons - if you hear "Warning: Airstrike coming" or whatever it says, lug your vortex into the air

Not sure if the missles are almost on ground already what'll happen. For that time he had used his grappling hook to ride up on my Raptor, and tossed it up high that way.

I have an idea for an AWO for the Gravity Vortex Launcher:
Make it so that instead of launching a ball and having it create the vortex, it will shoot it out the gun little black ball, turning into a vortex after launch. Clicking the primary button launches the vortex at the speed of a Goliath tank and forms the vortex after 3 seconds, while clicking the secondary launches it twice as fast and forms the vortex in about 1.5 seconds.
And how about an AWO for the target painter or something that makes it so that painting a certain target or point on the ground causes all rockets, avrils, and unpiloted redeeers in a wide area to fly towards the target. Maybe have it so that any piloted Redeemers in the area have a sort of urge to fly into the target, making it hard for the pilot to fly them. Proxies should be affected too.
And how about Proxies with rockets stuck to their backs? This will make a good replacement to the avrils. They would be able to rocket around like missiles and take down raptors and stuff.

AWO for the gravity vortex:Gravity repulsor,think of lounching all thoose pesky deemers back at the sender,maybe could also do the flashy bangy stuff emp effect?

Redeemers also fly around the vortex. Though the coolest so far is when you launch a lot of goo into it. When it dies, green globs go everywhere!
So, does a scorpian get sucked right in?
