Chaos Tournament 2004
Chaos Tournament 2004
How 'bout a Chaos version of UT2004 single player. But with a RPG twist.
You start off in the qualifying round which consists of 2 games of Bombing Run, CTF (the original version where the flag is returned instantly), Onslaught, and double domination. All of these are played with standard UT2004 weapons and you play alongside a random team.
Once you get past the qualifying ronuds you start off on a map. This map is the first round "world". It is as big as 4 onslaught maps (in fact it has 4 sections which have to be accessed seperatley). Here you can enter matches, buy weapons (Chaos and UT2004), look for team mates, bribe opposing teams, buy shields, adrenaline, buy one use mutators and so on.
There are 3 "worlds" and each has a different difficulty (e.g if you start the tournament on novice the 1st world will be filled with novice players, the second average and the 3rd experienced). These worlds are populated with other players. There are portals which take you into matches and you will see bots (and/or other human players if it is online) entering them. There are shpos which you can buy the weapons which you will start off with. Each of the 4 sections in the worlds specialize in different things: the weapons area is were you can buy and test your weapons (in the sooting range). The team area is where you can look for team mates and train with them to improve your (and thier) skills and teamwork.
There is a level up system which is very similar to UT2004RPG (without the stupid magicl weapons). The more frags you get the more experience points you earn. These can be used to increase your starting health, adrenaline, weapon damage, jump hieght, damage reduction etc. You can also buy various abilities with your exp. points. It also has full bot support. So they grow in level aswell.
You start off with 100 credits. This can buy you a shield gun to start off with in matches. Bots will also start off with the same amonut of credits so you will never be at a disadvantage.
In each world there is a ladder which determines how close you are to reaching the top and getting promoted to the other worlds, or how close you are to being demoted. When you reach the top or the bottom you can challenge for promotion or be challenged for demotion. If you lose the challenge you will be placed as number 2 challenger and you must win some more matches to get back to number 1. If you lose while your being challenged you get demoted to a lower world or back to the qualifying rounds. Bots will also challenge.
Each world has a different population of bots:
World 1. 20
2. 15
3. 10
The tournament ends when you have successfully defended number 1 position in world 3. But facing the guys on world three is hard because they have high levels and many abilities.
There is also a separate team ladder.

THB I have no idea how easy or hard that is to add. And we still need to finnish what we have on our plate. Plus we are short 3 coders (Mel and Jedi are just taking a short break to enjoy the summer for a bit, Shuri is moving to a new continent). Thus lots to finnish up on....TKATK wrote:maybe add it partly, like the next release could have 1 area and no buying, maps by walking on stuff, after that there would be buying, people to talk, bribing, hoverboard racing
so that it doesnt take tooo much, but isnt left on the backburner

Hey, if we win the MSU, we would concievably have enough backing capital (plus that sweet license) to make Chaotic Dreams an actual business. Then, we could evolve Chaos from a mod to its own game.
Now THAT would be sweet.
Ah, not saying that we will of course. I have no idea...

Wow, I thought I knew what ridiculous was until today -Strongbad
My legal speak to english converter does not work too well but IF I DID the contest rules correctly then yes no UT2k4 content from Epic can be used in this. However the winners get their choice of the current "UT2k4 Engine" or the new Unreal 3 engine to use (they can only pick one of the two)TKATK wrote:wouldnt everything in some way connected to Unreal have to be removed?that would be one hollow universe

Yea I am sure almost every one would go for the new version. However there are many many unknows with the new system and the winnwer will be starting all over from ground zero. So I could see SOME logic in sticking with the old engine as the winning mod team would know exactly how to use it. And why might this be something to consider? Well if the team that wins has a date of getting out their version then using something they know would save a lot of development time. But yea no doubt I would love the new one!Pepito wrote:Rofl. Yep, good point JB. But we'd have to see how far along the Unreal 3 engine is at that time. As for building a new game from scratch, I think we have alot of ideas floating around among the team that we simply can't implement as a mod, but would be really cool and unique and not found in any other game on the market right now. So, I THINK we could manage to make an entirely original game. I know I have lots of ideas that would work well in a game, though I'm actually more partial to hybrid space-sim/FPS games than just FPS. And most of my best ideas would only work in a freeform space-trading style game scenario, which doesn't fit with FPS. But still, would be great fun to make Chaos its own standalone FPS.
