Chaos servers and maps

Post by Maquina »

You would think a mod like this would be played A LOT. It was pretty popular in Quake 2 for awhile then kinda died down. I didn't play UT too much and didn't buy UT2003 so I don't know how popular it was for those 2 games. I think the UT2004 version is great. It has that Q2 feel to it that I thought was missing in UT, but with many enhancements. Anyway...

With all the fans out there, there are hardly any servers and players! Wish there was something we could do about that. You guys need some advertising for the mod. Like a story in PC Gamer or something. Wish I could help cuz Chaos rules!

And, I don't know who makes your maps but I would love to see all teh Quake 2 Chaos DM maps done for CUT2004 DM! If I recall correctly there was like 8 of them? But they were all great. I would love to see a server rotating just these maps. Hell, I might just make my own server if all the maps were available! Anyone know if these DM maps are being redone?

Decidedly the most popular game mode is Melee Duel... and for good reason. ^^;

I likes me some Chaos DM though... except when it becomes a match to see who can have the most Proxys on the map *HINTHINT* =P

Maquina,

thanks for the kind words. I think part of the reason why its hard to find players is there are a lack of players in UT2k4. Every time I check a game tracking stat site (for example: http://archive.gamespy.com/stats/) I see that UT2k4 is near the bottom of the top ten of the one line games being played. Games like Counter Strike (ok Half Life) are still drawing in 70,000 players at any given time. Where as UT2k4 barely breaks 4000 on a good day. Back in Q2 day it was the most popular so you had some 40,000 to 50,000 playing Q2 and its mods (Q2 was replaced by Tribes for the on line spot, then tribes lost that to HL/CS and HL/CS has been in the number 1 spot for more than 3 years now). Yes there are more people playing games now then there were back then. But we have many more good games out. So you get 3,000 playing this one, 3,000 playing that on, ect.

So thats my biggest guess to why we dont see more players on, just for the fact that UT2k4 as a whole does not have tons of people playing it.

too add to what JB said , remember that Not alll ut2k4 players play online. Unlike BF1942 and CS , or AA which have little or no bot support , UT2004 has an enjoyable offline experience ripe for the picking.

I hardly ever play ut2004 over the internet, although that's because I can't get multiplayer to work on my computer. :cry:
