Looks like a ring of metal teeth. Bear steps onto, teeth come up, snatch bear's foot, bear is trapped.

I agree the beartrap is cool and I think it would be fun to ensnare an opponent in a trap in duel and attack them from their rear with impunity.

U4E had beartraps. Maybe thats where they got confused...
