A new Toy on its way.....

Post by LoQtUS »

Well, I logged onto the Genrals Duel server and had quite a bit of fun today, and this inspired me to jump on a project that i had on hold. Thanks for the fun Gen Ali3n, and NiceGirl.

Anyway, Here comes the Staff. Currently i have it running on the Katana Animations until i get it its own animations :)

nice.

just a suggestion fo rthe anims - any chance we can have some cool sorta pole-axe type bashing moves? (smacking about with both ends sorta things)

or maybe some nice shaolin style spinning moves.....

EDITED
Looks more like a spear to me.

Anyways here are my 2 cents:
1. Larger blades.
2. Less thick handle.

Imo it truly looks like a spear...

a staff should be more like a stick imo,the same width, maybe only except the part where the model puts its arms may be a bit thinner

the edges could be a bit more round, maybe spiked, glowing spheres becouse a staff is a blunt weapon(blades aint exactly all that painfull when used as blunt/crushing weapons)

Good point there.
Maybe you can also put some metal around the end of the staff; looks and cool realistic.

on the subject of spears...

do you guys think it would be possible to implement a spear - and have thrusting type attacks with long reach? Or possibly a new projectile - the ability to throw spears at ppl, so a truly medieval feel could be done using the xbow , spear and melee weapons.

Well, You dont say Screw you when these are the people that you are building it for. ;) But, thank you for the sentiments :)

Maybe its just the position that she is holding it in that makes it look like a spear. When I was thinking about making it I thought Who better to draw insperation from then Dungeons and Dragons. So, I loaded up the arora tool set and took a look at the staff combinations that they have in there. I didnt want to use an asymetrical design as i thought that it would look odd spinning around. Ofcourse, I followed a design that i liked quite a bit, and that i used for one of my charicters. Here is a pic of my NWN charicter holding his staff.

I'm open to ideas, but i want to stay away from spiked balls on the ends because we may make a moring star in the future and they would look alot alike ;)

Hmmmm, nice - make sure to send me a 3ds with that staff and a short description, I'd like to spit out something for the new anims, too!

FINALLY! THANK YOU! Ok back to "normal" text... Love the staff. It doesn't look like a normal staff with the ends being as sharp as they are, so stabs would be nice to have. If a bladed staff is balanced, a blended spear/staff moveset would be pretty nice, and whirling blades are always fun, especially with twins. It could behead AND block quite nicely. LoQtus, is it possible for you to make a set of anims that has both one handed motions and two handed motions? That would make it the coolest weapon in melee in my mind. The others wouldn't compare.
Jingle, jingle, boom. Oops, you're dead.
That sucks cause I wanted to play....
But let the show go on!

Yes that is possable, though we are limited on the 2 handed animations due to the attachment to the player on the right hand. For instance: If the staff is to spin then the left hand will have to come off of the shaft at some point during the animation. This is not to say that the left hand cant pick back up after the spin is complete. For instance: The animation has the player swing the staff up over his head spin it twice and come down in a 2 handed stabbing motion. This would requtire the left hand to leave the staff while it is spinning, but as soon as the downward motion starts the left hand can grasp the weapon again. Did i loose you?

By the way, still open to ideas on changing the look a bit.

in baldurs gate 2 look at how the items look in the inventory

all of them are blunt(the staffs)(its D&D too)
i dont think big balls, maybe a bit of steel at the tip with the same width as the staff

a bladed staff realy seem like a double edged spear
