AAARGH!
I NEED HELP!!!
I dont know who to ask...
My computer keeps crashing at odd moments. Every time it restarts, the windows error thingy comes. I send the windows error message and the windows site says that i need to update certain drivers, which i did. When i open task manager, cisvc.exe is always hogging CPU usage. when i try searching for cisvc.exe, the comp crashes again. WHAT IS GOING ON??!! PLZ HELP ME! All the programs, including CUT, seem to be running fine though.
More Info: this started a few days after I installed jdk-1_5_0-windows-i586.exe and netbeans-4_0-rc1-windows.exe. Anything there?

Re: AAARGH!
Try removing netbeans and jdk to see if that helps... have you checked for adware/spyware/etc ?lord_kungai wrote:I NEED HELP!!!

Its started again... the unexplained crashing. When i am not using the comp, it whirs loudly as if it is processing something and just goes off...
the microsoft online crash analysis says that it is to do with a device driver failure...
I dont know what to do...

OK!
Narrowed it down:
when i am not using comp, comp performs auto indexing and crashes
I disabled auto indexing
however, i cant perform searches on windows without it crashing
Therefore/in conclusion:
There is something in the search feature that is causing windows to crash
BTW: I alredy uninstalled the Java RTE and SDK, so its not the Java stuff
What could be screwing up Windows searches...
The microsoft online crash analysis keeps telling me that there was a device driver failure, but i dont know what...
PLZ HELP GUYS!!!!

i had something very similar which caused me to format my pc a few weeks back.
im not sure at all how to get round it bar formatting. my error was also due to my graphic driver (which it wasnt, but xp said so). it randonly uninstalled itself and even after a reinstall wouldnt operate. this was all caused by installing some logitech mouseware i had. nightmare.
the whole search thing could just be the tip of the iceberg. my error was to do with some windows log file, but in essence it was the whole registry in tatters, not this one file. i wouldnt get too hung up on it being just your search function triggering it. windows eventually ties itself in knots just by being run, so if youve had youre pc a while, a format is probably needed (properly, through DOS, dont use any crapola third party stuff, and definatly dont do it thru windows....)
my advice is just backup what you can and do a format. install xp fresh, and not only will it solve your porblem, it will also get rid of all the crap ppl have on their pcs, inadvertently. if youve been searching for game cracks (:/ warez= ergh) you will more than likely have several (hundred!) progs installed into your pc, such a hidden porn dialers or hijackers.

Hmmm... I do have a lot of guard progs (spyware detectors, antivirus progs) that dont seem to have detected anything. I dont think the prob is external, all i was looking for was a C&C Generals Zero Hour NoCD exe. You might be right in saying the registry is messed up, but i dont know how, my comp is only almost a year old. ill repair Windows XP, and maybe even install Linux like so many people have been telling me to...venalanatomica wrote: if youve been searching for game cracks (:/ warez= ergh) you will more than likely have several (hundred!) progs installed into your pc, such a hidden porn dialers or hijackers.

linux??? argh.
personally, ive never had any success trying to repair windows. i find the best way just to format and do a clean install. the bonus for the hard graft is the super fast loadups (for the first few months....). the fact that youve had your pc only a year and this has happened is unlucky, but i suppose its all to do with how much you add/remove and generally annoy windows. i had to format mine after about 2yrs.
btw, dont worry about the warez comment. it was just a passing thought.i myself have used noCD "hacks".

the searching for NOCD could be the problem,as there are only about 5 or so warez sites that dont fill your PC with spyware(or even worse, trojans and viruses)lord_kungai wrote:Hmmm... but gotta say, formatting is the true asnwer to any PC problem
The ONLY adware and spyware programs that you can trust are ad-aware and spybot. Norton picks up a few adware progs too, and I think other reputable virus scanners do so too sometimes. other than those, Ad-Aware and Spybot are the only ones that really work, other than possibly hijackthis, but thats really different. anything else either just doesnt work or actually installs new ad and spyware on your comp. hope this helps.lord_kungai wrote: Hmmm... I can assure you that I am perfectly sane.

hmmm... I have Spybot and a software called XOF-spy. No matter... I know the issue isnt external (virus, etc.). Question: how do you format windows???Steyr wrote:The ONLY adware and spyware programs that you can trust are ad-aware and spybot. insert boot disk from any old version of windows. 98 works fine. its only to get into the command prompt anyway.
set boot order in bios settings to boot from floppy first, then HDD then CDrom.
When it tries to boot from Floppy, hit shift and f5 at the screen with all the numbers for choices on it. this brings up the command prompt.
type : FDISK
veiw the partition by pressing option [4]. then delete it, and re-create a partition. then restart.
do the same as above to get into fdisk screen to check that the partition is active. then restart again.
Change boot order to cdrom first then HDD then Floppy in bios settings.
Insert XP disk. if you have a system disk (eg not an upgrade) it should all just lead you through the format and installation.
remember and have any extra drivers of scsi drives etc on floppys to insert when windows asks for them. i think doing it this way might install it as a NTFS system format, i cant remeber how to do a FAT32 install with my version of XP. id say that NTFS is working better this time for me however.
once you've formatted it, remeber to change boot order back to FLoppy>HDD>CDROM.
