Duel melee needs a system to penalize cowardly players who just run away and make the game un-fun for the true warriors.
How about giving players the ability to pull opponents towards them, like the Force pull in the Jedi Knight games?

If anything is to be done, a kick vote would seem to be the best solution. This is an area where we need to be very careful, because we could easily ruin the game by introducing exploits. A kick vote is less exploitable because at least that requires a majority of players. Still, any change we make we must make with caution. Whenever you are dealing with anti-lamer features, you have to make sure they aren't exploitable. Anti-lamer features can easily become pro-lamer features (that is, exploitable) if their implementation is not well thought-out.

how about a serverside option like llama for jailbreak
After a given amount of time the distance between the players is larger than X (?) then then the players get pulled to a distance of X of the highest score/win player,if a player goes out of X distance he gets pulled back in
As the people with the highest score are usually the best fighters,meaning that the chance of them not being so cowardly is larger
