Well it does have a projectile. Just that it moves really really fast. Faster than you can see even when you go into slomo :) The idea was it was a rail gun and some of those can accelerate the slugs they fire to about 7000 mph :)

lord_kungai I do agree is some cases snipers are usefully. For DM usally the people that win are the ones that are more agreesive which tends NOT to be snipers...

Now tell me what's UT2004 got to do with army/navy/airforce???
Erm... the slaughtering and destruction involved in both? Jus' kiddin' 'bout the army though. maybe I got a bit carried away there. I've been playing Brothers In Arms lately...

Suuuuure, now try shooting someone in the head in a map with small corridors, while he's jumping around and shooting you with flak...
*Me smell roasted meat*
I know a guy who can go on a one on one against anyone with only a lightning gun, while the other guy has all the other weps, and still massacre him. This guy can get the 'headhunter' award in DM-Serpentine

You been on UT2004 offical forums? Most people don't like the classic sniper rifle returning...
No and I as I said before, IMHO (In My Humble Opinion). I personally like the classic UT SR, though the LG and SR should have been combined to make a cool new SR (again IMHO).

Now tell me anoter way to get the flag in CTF-FaceClassic... Or another map, where sniper rifle is harder to get... (Which means no counterattacks to snipers, who DO get it)
I use different tactics, quite succesfully (more specifically, if Snipers give me trouble, I take them out with a shock rifle and then get the SR)

CAMPERS RULZ!!!
Yes I have.

:D

BTW: ERDW also RULZ!!!

I know... Usually the guy with the flak cannon wins

However, I saw this guy playing, who used only a LG and got 400 frags!!!

I hope to become as good some day...

Alot of it depends on the scenario. Some maps are just better for snipers than others. At least in UT you can move quickly enough to avoid all but the best snipers. In most maps, you can avoid snipers, if you know where they are, just don't give them a target. If everyone did that, those snipers would'nt get many frags. Most of the better maps encourage a nice variety of gameplay so it's easy enough to do. There's nothing more vulnerable than a moving sniper. That's why they camp.

And of course, there's proxies... Those little guys have a way of sniffing out snipers (and anything else really) and ruining thier day.

a moving sniper can be a force to be reckoned with. It's alot easier to land a 90 damage bullet in someone's skull if you're only 50 feet from them :)

Unless he's not a n00b and jumps around...
*We all love killing n00bs*
No offense

PS: n00b is NOT a newbie. At least that's my opinion. Both are clumsy, but n00bs got no idea they should also avoid fire.
Chess is a nice example: A newbie would play it a bit weak, but still nicely, but n00b would put the pawns BEHIND king and queen and then attack with them... And use the forts as two kings, and pawns as queens (IMAGINE!!!)

He's got the point
It's more powerful than the rifle, but it's got its limits in the form of low ammo and slow recharge (for another shot)
not really. a good sniper would wait until his victim is about to land in a spot he has on his recticle and fire. secondary fires does a lot of damage, and moving around after firing really helps keep your cover. And I always have a medium-to-close range weapon handy in case someone tries to due me in up close. Flak for a couple seconds, rocket if possible, and then just use the shield until you can get to safety. and you can always use the ERDW at close range.

Another use is quite a common chaos tip. hide behind a wall, use the sniper alt zoom to view anyone behind the walls, when you find one you just pull out the ERDW and blast them away! Always aim for headshots!

I scared a few people on a server for using the first few tips while UT2004 was still in demo mode. Though of course they finally got smart and knew my patterns so I had to change them and then they knew that they were sitting ducks where they currently were and started sniping at me in places I couldn't see well, or just run up to me and try to blast me.

Okay, i'm done ranting! :D

The only time I ever had any great luck sniping was by grapple-slingshotting around a level with the sniper rifle or railgun... Of course, you don't really "aim" when you do that, it's more about application of trajectories and vectors than anything else.... In other words, you just aim in one direction and hope your movement and the victim's movement happen to place thier head in your crosshairs at just the right time. Oddly enough, it actually works better than it sounds, but I find a rocket launcher is far more effective when grapple-flying.

The best weapon in the game is the CPP. Why, do you ask? I'll tell you:

1) Fast rate of fire
2) Virtually instanthit (like the ERDW)
3) Can get Headshots (!!!)
4) Lots of ammo
5) Decent damage so good at close range

:D

Hmmm...
As the creator of the CPP, I have to be honest but I kinda think it sucks right now. It needs a major overhaul, and I think most of the team agrees.

I have considered coding a much better version of it (combo machine pistol with tag-flaregun), but for now it will have to wait until I get a go-ahead from the rest of the team.
